Mmm, that sexy, sexy gray plastic. You keep your distance, damn it! My wallet can't take more of your abuse!

Here is my first real attempt at painting a miniature in over a decade.

Didn't turn out great, but I suppose it could have been worse. Not happy with the sword or horns, but I like the skin somewhat.

I'm practicing on these old things so I can figure out a scheme I like for the modern bloodletter sculpt, I have over 50 of those.

The sword does look a bit too similar to the flesh, I think. Otherwise not half bad. I have a trio of those old 'Letters myself, as it happens...

I couldn't make my mind up with how exactly I was going to paint it. Next time I'm gonna leave it flat black before adding the highlights.

Yeah, the hellblade is a problem. It needs to be different.

The horns are a bit too contrasty. They probably should have had another 1 or 2 intermediate colors in there between the dark brown and the bone/white.

Otherwise not bad for a 10 year hiatus.

Thank you. That sword is definitely shit.

I'm having trouble using a glaze properly, as well. I was working on another bloodletter and thought I would use the glaze to sort of fade the reds together a little better, but I think perhaps I used too much.

Then I jacked up my airgun, on top of it all. Ugh. Must fix, so I can spray primer on the rest of my stuff.

I tested an all-brass power armor scheme on some old plague marines (the ones who look like dwarfs in armor), but I'm not liking the result. I dry brushed one and painted the other solid, but I think vallejo brass is too bright and shiny for a basecoat, better used as a highlight or layer on top.

It's frustrating and exciting to finally start painting, but I want my army to look good.

Warplock bronze. Definitely the way to go. Highlight with brass. Nuln oil where needed. Verdigris where needed.

After the daemonkin book came out I realized looking through the color schemes that I basically have a bronze beasts force already both in color (lots of bronze) and in models (lots of daemon engines) though many are unassembled.

Maybe an orange/yellow highlight along the Bloodletters blade will help it look different to the skin tone. Maybe even paint it brass coloured. Excellent job so far though.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys.

I fixed my airbrush last night, so I'm back in business.
