Default WIPs/Painting Log

I always photograph my models as I'm painting them, mainly because if screw up, I can see exactly where it went wrong.

So I figured, since I have all these pictures, I may as well post them here to get some comments, criticism and tips.

At the moment, I'm working on:

Dark Angels Vets

For these, as they're veterans, I wanted to make their armour look battered and used. None of them are finished yet, and I'm not sure how I'm going to base them yet; individual bases, or a large display base.

Thousand Sons

Very unfinished state. These will definitely be based on one big display base.

Kasrkin

Not happy with these at all. Both have already been stripped three or four times.

C&C very welcome, be as honest and harsh as you wish.

All great, only thing i might suggest.
Change the red on the Tsons, its looks way to orange in my opinion.
Then again i always liked a darker red.
Try base coating with a earthy color, i use "Burnt umber" not sure the GW equvalant, working up to a burnt sienna. gradually mixing in scab red, highlighting with red gore, shading w/ brown ink. Drybrush of scab red, then redgore, then highlights w/ blood red. Then drybrush of blood red to blend it all.

Try not to use straight white to highlight graveyard earth or bleached bone, it's too much of a color contrast on the Vets robes. Try blending the colors and use a scorched brown on the bottoms to look like weathered robes like they were running around in a muddy area or haven't washed their robes in a while.

It IS orange ;)

I wanted something a little different, and they're obviously no where near finished. To me, Tsons seem like they should be bright and shiny, so that's what I'm going for.

As for the vet's robes, I can see what you mean. However, the flash is making them stand out a hell of a lot more than they actually are.

Thanks for the comments!

Like the work on the vets so far. The flesh looks good too me. All I would say is give the robes some depth. Otherwise great stuff.

Finally finished the DA Vets.

Pretty happy with how they turned out. Haven't found anything I want to base them on yet. I was thinking about maybe visiting a beach to see if I could find some interesting looking rock or driftwood.

Also, I'm heading home to visit soon, so I'm looking forward to picking up all my old models. I'll be bringing them all back here to strip and repaint.

Off the top of my head, I can remember having:

Terminator Wolfguard squad
Grey Hunters
Blood Claws
SW standard bearer
Rune Priest Terminator
Predator
Whirlwind
Kharn the Betrayer
CSM Terminators
Various SM (probably a couple of tactical squads)
IG Storm Troopers
And a bunch of other stuff like Chaos Beastmen, Bloodletters etc

Looking forward to getting started on them!

In the meantime, I aim to finish my Tsons and a couple of Eldar with heavy weapon on anti grav platform.
