Traveling to Europe

What nations in Europe are worth it to see? I am looking at the following:

Switzerland
Croatia

Germany
Austria
Italy
Poland
Slovakia
Scotland
Norway
Spain

With those in bold as my higher up picks.

Depends what your into would be a question. Have heard lots of good things about most of Europe, though no too sure with the insurection and mass movement of people due to that and how that might effect your trip.

Is there anything in particular you do or enjoy? Museums? Old greek architecture? Hiking? Skiing?

Switzerland is craaaazy expensive. So you'd better have a fat wallet when you go there. 11 euros for a kebab.

If you hit Croatia you should check out the lakes near Zagreb.
The water is insane. I was there last summer for a while. These pictures are not photoshopped. The water really is that blue.
Dubrovnik isn't really anything amazing. It's full of Game of Throne fans (it's where they film the King's Landing scenes) It's also quite expensive (tourist trap)

I lived in Berlin for a while a few years ago. It's nice for tourists. I prefer Koln though.

Stay away from Ireland, truth be told we are bitter hate filled grudge bearing xenophobes, we're great craic like, show you a good time but the former still stands!

R_Squared 02-14-16 11:26 PM

Stay away from London like you would a syphalitic coke whore. They both enjoy the same level of personal hygiene, expensive taste and lingering feeling of filth.
Scotland's very nice though, as is Wales and I go on holiday in Yorkshire mostly.
Italy's quite expensive as I remember, especially around lake Garda.

Thanks for the help everyone and the pictures too!!

I am looking for peace and relaxation and a little bit of museums/sightseeing and for the culinary scene as well.

If you're going to Poland, Krakow is definitely worth a look. If you're travelling late Sept early Oct try to get to the Munich beer fest. Had one of the best weekends ever there. In Italy, Lake Garda in the north is stunning. Possibly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The Scottish highlands are also very cool. In Spain, the Basque Country is lovely. Can't really speak for the rest apart from some of the holiday resorts.

Norway and Switzerland, while I've never been, are supposedly extremely expensive.

I can't really sign off without recommending a stop in Ireland. Oldman is right, we can be a bitter bunch, but we're a welcoming bunch, and there's plenty to see and do. It can be a bit pricey, but with the exchange rates as they are you're ahead of the game.

ShogunGrumpyBear 02-15-16 12:47 AM

Thanks much Khorne. I heard good things about Ireland despite the xenophobes stuff :)!

We're not really xenophobic. There are far more countries less tolerant of tyranids and Eldar than us.

Sorry if it came out wrong, I didn't mean that in a bad way. I have seen beautiful scenery from Ireland. :ok:

What country are you from? That will determine whether or not you're beaten, raped and left for dead.

As a Brit, I'd definitely second Scotland if you have the chance.

Also a big fan of Germany, with particular emphasis on Bavaria.

I've attached a little snap I took when I was last Kayaking there, wonderful place.

United States. I am half Polish, 25% Croat and Slovak. So I guess Middle East is out? Russia? Serbia perhaps and eastern Ukraine and Crimea? :scare:

Thanks Rush. Good pictures!

I met a pair from the US a couple of years ago that were hiking and backpacking around europe. They had the Canadian Flag sewed to their backpack to minimize their own risk because the reputation of the US.

Europe is more diverse than most think so you can easily get your needs out. If you like a culinary stop on your way I have heard very good of Amsterdam, Krakow and munich. You can't go wrong there. Peace you'll find out in the open wild. Here I would recomend the nordic countries since our law states it is free to Hike and put up tenta almost anywhere as long as you show respect for nature and some common sense.

Museums I would recomend a WW2 museum, I think outside arnhem. I'm Told it is the best. If you happen past Stockholm the Wasa museum holds the best preserved shipwreck from the 17th century. Many museums in Sweden are stateowned and also free to enter.

You'll be skinned alive, raped, robbed and finally beaten to death the moment you open your mouth on the street.

Actually, you'll be fine. I met some cool guys from Chicago when I was in Croatia last summer, so it's nice to know that you're not all gun-toting, creationist, warmongering lunatics.
Just mind the volume of your voice. In Europe we generally speak 5 decibels quieter than US citizens. To our soft ears it sounds like you're all shouting as loudly as possible, even when in a place which is quiet.

HEY GUYS! LOOK! THE INSIDE OF THIS CHURCH IS SURE BEAUTIFUL! IT'S SO QUIET AND PEACEFUL HERE!!!!

You meantioned Russia. I know it's not one of your target countries, but now is actually the best time to visit. The visa is a bit of a pain in the ass to sort out, but the currency here is absolutely fucked. We're talking near economic collapse. So if you do visit, you money is worth soooo much more. As a Brit working here, I weep every time I check the exchange rate and see that my salary is increasingly worthless.
Just over a year ago £1 = 50rub. Today, £1 = 110rub.
The majority of Russians wouldn't care that you're from the USA.

Brobaddon 02-29-16 09:18 PM

Yes, definitely come to visit here. Though, the coast is not the only tourist attraction like the guy above me said, the river Sava is pretty great, and you could try Plitvice too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plitvi..._National_Park

ShogunGrumpyBear 03-02-16 03:33 AM

Thanks guys. I heard Russia is interesting. Maybe I can stop there too.

Thanks for the info!

Anyone here like to meet up when I come to your nation?

General Panic 03-28-16 02:48 PM

Spain. My home and a fantastic choice. Nowhere can offer so much in one nation. You want history? We have inhabited sites since pre-ice-age. Neanderthals, celtic, iberian, phoenician, greek, roman, carthaginian, basque, visigoth, byzantine, moorish from at least 3 distinct eras, catholic reconquista and modern sites from the napoleonics and the civil war. There are at least 4 distinct cultures here, each with its own cuisine, rated as the best in the world by tourists last year, mountain, forest, desert, beaches, rivers, 2 distinct coasts, atlantic and mediterranean. And its cheap. A good meal at midday with 2 courses, wine, a desert and coffee will cost from 8-12€ all in. Yeah, and then there's the weather, where I am we have 220+ days of sun a year :D

Angel of Blood 04-08-16 10:54 AM

I'd consider Slovenia as well. Ljubljana is the capital, beautiful city, really friendly locals, good food, good spoken English(exceptionally good infact). And worth it for a day trip to Lake Bled if nothing else.

really friendly locals
Hah! Yes I would imagine that would be a foreigner's impression  They're especially friendly when you sink your money like there's no tommorow :P
