Dark Angels Successor WIP

Hi all!

Between my Blood Angels I'm working on my Dark Angels successor chapter (unnamed as of yet!) What do you think of the color scheme? :)

All feedback/comments/criticisms welcome, but bear in mind it is WIP!

Seems like a reasonable scheme, only thought is the fact that its very close to the original scheme for the dark angels.

Only other comment would be for the scheme would be the dark angels and successors often have the scheme similar to knights of past with quarter pattens or half pattens even.

Apart from that are you considering having red bolter casings or something like that or just the black casings?

Hi @Battman thanks for the feedback!

Not sure if the pic conveys but the arms/tops of legs/bottom of midriff are black and the rest DA green, I wanted to make them obviously recognisable as a DA successor but keep them fairly different.

I'm still undecided on the casings; I'm thinking black or possibly a deep purple as I've used purple for some details.

I think you can see the differences between the standard DA colours and my chosen colours on a standard marine more than a terminator, I'll try get some more pictures up after work today!

I like the colors a lot! The only thing that sticks out to me is the yellow on the shoulder guard. Since everything else is pretty dark and muted, it seems a bit too bright (at least to me). But I'd like to see more!

Hi @Tyriks

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I think the yellow offsets the darkness somewhat when you see it 'in the flesh' so to speak, I didn't choose the best model for a picture in hindsight; I'll try get some more pics up for you after work and see what you think of the yellow, as always i'll appreciate your honesty!

I would do something with the accent colours.
You need to pick one, blue purple and yellow is to many.
Personally I think you should lose the blue and go for purple on the seals, and then you need more yellow on the shield. Try painting it all yellow over a white or grey base coat, then wash with sepia or brown for shade, then highlight the edges. You should get a better gradient of colour. You can use the same technique for the bone cloth just highlight with bone then extreme with white. For bone colour or yellow I use a watered down mix of whatever snakebite leather is called now for the shade. Try 60/40 water to paint and then adjust your ratio to taste.
Hope it helps

Thanks for the feedback @DaisyDuke I think I'm going to strip them and start over, they were started around 3 years ago and dug them out recently, think they need a makeover!

Here's a couple of my (unfinished) converted First Captain:

Ok that does look better didn't pick the green/black sections looked like all that dark angels color thought it was just due to the light. But now i see what your trying to achive, it works just could do with better photos (but don't all our models). Keep it up how about showing us the scheme on a standard marine? Terminators are difficult to pick schemes for because of the variant armor style.

Tyriks 01-05-16 09:24 PM

Yeah, that's definitely a better picture for demonstrating it. Looks very nice. Keep it up! Also, I agree with @Battman that a tactical marine would be nice!

@Battman & @Tyriks I'll get one up for you tommorow :)

Starting to think I may strip them and start again with the same or a similar scheme as (and I'm not trying to sound big headed at all) I think my painting has got better in the last couple of years since these were started and my hand a lot steadier.

Thanks for all the input all, really appreciate it!
