Default Flames of War, a REAL red army

OK so one of my current projects is a flames mid-late russians with a crapton of t34's and some nasty boys with flamethrowers in 1/2 tracks and a couple scout cars etc.

The list building isnt too much of an issue but painting.........tougher.

See the only thing I dont like about flames is the historical enforcement commitee that govern the painting.

So I was kinda thinking my red army would be ...... well red.

Like Blood Angels red cloth, with black/bronze/gold details.

Now before I go painting everything, anyone think this is an extraordinarily bad idea?

Otherwise I think I'll go ahead.

Be prepared to get all sorts of flak if you do. It is a historical game after all. Some people tale their history pretty seriously, and react poorly. Luckily nobody around here gas caught on to my commander's T-34/85 being proudly emblazoned "Where are Moose and Squirrel?" in Russian.

Quite a different take on things.

I have been watching programes on the history channel anbout the soviets in WWII.Great programe too.

Zvezda do some very nice little kits that are scaled 1/100 which I am told works well for 15mm.I have bought a few kits and they are great value for money at 2.75 a kit.A good way to get loads of tanks on the table cheaply.

My next thing to do is get the troops to go with them.

Check out The Plastic Soldier Company (http://www.theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/). Their Russian Infantry come 130 figures to the box for about what BF charges for 40. I picked up a box and they fit in perfectly well. A bit more slender, but well detailed. And at 15mm, who's gonna be able to tell during a game?

That's one of the things I like about FOW: they're not "Only Our Products Are Legal!" types. If you go all Battlefront, the game is easily as expensive as Warhammer (or 40k). Fortunately there are a plethora of companies that produce 15mm WW2 minis.
