Default Steampunk Victorian Sci-Fi Rules?

Finally I have found some minis the other half fancies painting other than High Elves.

I have long had a small thing about steampunk Victorian Sci-Fi style minis and suddenly realised that Victorian style ladies toting guns might interest the lady of the house.

Showing her a sample of random web sites with pictures of minis along these lines Tinks was certainly interested.

I have been trying to find rules for something along these lines and was wondering if there was a particular set of rules which are most commonly used.

I'm interested in small skirmish ( Necromunda style) rules as well as full battle rules. In an ideal world there will be a set that covers both, but I doubt it.

Retail sites for such minis are always of interest as well.

I have often considered the same thing. Trying to find a system and set of miniatures that my wife would dig and want to play. Although I'm sure you've seen or read something on them, I have been considering Malifaux. It is a smaller game, the miniatures (Wyrd) are very cool and the reviews of the system are largely positive. That being said, I have yet to play the game. But I have been reading some of the available story-archs online and Malifaux has cropped up as my favorite system fluff that I've read in a long time (always reluctant to use 'ever').

Until the Loki sector is free or we become extinct on Rynn...the Crimson Fists fight on in his grace's name.

Some links to ongoing painting logs covering space marines, orks, vampire counts and new small Warmachine Cryx project. Not to mention some pics of previously owned High Elves:

We looked at the minis but she was not keen.

In the end this is probably something that I will look at with my brother as Pirates have been deemed more acceptable.

There's a lot more choice when it comes to female figures for Pirates and I have even managed to find a range that has some Royal Navy units to amuse myself with.

My Heresy Blog has some of the the other halfs purchases shown.

There are the new gaslight rules coming out soon. I've heard good things about them over on Lead Adventure.

Models might not be exactly what you were aiming for, BUT, Privateer Press' Warmachine has a steampunk basis - most of the gaming is based around models called Warjacks (think light OR heavy dreadnaughts, with a zillion 'hard' variations, but no wargear, and feels like streamlined biped locomotives) and 2 of the 5 factions have some infantry with a colonial feel (Cygnar and Mercinary models - sweet hats!)

Warjack example A
Warjack example 2
Warjack example N
Cygnar specialized infantry
Mercinary pirates!

Even if the models aren't to anyone's liking (and very pricey), it has a rules set for gaming that can start as small as 3-8 models, and those games only take half an hour - but can get much bigger. Every army is based on a commander (all have magic), some infantry, but most of the work is done by the 'jacks. Even if you dislike the models, I'm sure you could easily sub in infantry and tanks from other mini producers and run with the army rules of your choice... would be difficult to have steam tanks punch something though.
