Mine still hasn't come Gonna just have to use what i've got tomorrow.

They look good so far! The Marseilles never seem to work for me though, they always die before doing much damage. I am looking into getting the Toulons instead for my Medium selections (and a Cherbourg). Their heat lances might do more damage. I may try the Marseilles one more time tomorrow.

I ordered mine UPS Second Day, it was only $5 more than standard anyway.

Still getting the rules down, going up to my LGS to check the game out in more depth this evening after work. As it is, i'll have the old naval battle group, plus the new one when it arrives.

The Toulons look pretty good, can't beat a nice hardy unit with heat lances. Which is why I'm interested in the Charlemagne!

Just joined the Dystopian Wars club at my LGS. Got integrated by one of the guys who works at the shop, great time tonight. Didn't bring anything, just had a little meet and greet. Very excited!

And bought a Tourbillion too! Perhaps it shall be the seat of my Commodore.

That could be either a master stroke or an epic fail. Fun either way though

Well this week was called off...But probably a good thing because the new box set only just arrived today! I also ordered x3 Toulons direct from Spartan so they should be with me by next week. I will have a heat lance heavy list next Wednesday with a good airforce supporting it bahahahah. And it's escalating to 1500pts, so I can try loads more toys!

Einherjar: The Tourbillion is cool. Slow as hell (6"), but if you move in a straight line you get an extra 2" due to Advanced Engines. It's good to remember this in a pinch, as the difference between Range Band 3 and Range band 2 can make a big difference.
The other cool thing about Tourbillions is that you get free tiny flier tokens with it. Nice. They are good to run in smaller points games I think, as they are very reasonably priced.

I may actually run a Vauban, Tourbillion, Couronne combination in higher points games. I think that would get you a total of 32 SAS. I would probably back that up with a couple of Frelon and Voltaire squadrons. That is a BIIIIG airforce. Quite fluffy too, as we are supposed to have the best airforce in the DW world.

Tawa: Have you tried out the different types of SAS and have views on what are the best? I have tried out fighters and dive bombers. The Dive Bombers seem like my favourite so far, it's just a matter of getting them close enough. Torpedo Bombers don't look like they can do enough damage. Fighters just do what they do. I'm honestly just thinking of taking the (almost) mandatory x1 spotter plane, 25% fighters and 75% dive bombers at all times.

Think I might go for something like this at 1500pts:

Naval Fleet:

Saint Malo Heavy Battleship

Cherbourgh Battle Cruiser

Toulon Armoured Cruisers x3

Lyon Frigate x4

Aerial Fleet:
Vauban Sky Fortress

Voltaire Heavy Interceptor x2
Voltaire Heavy Interceptor x2

Frelon Bomber x4
Frelon Bomber x4

SAS x20

:1445pts (without upgrades)

Well, have to say I wasn't that impressed with the St. Malo. Just didn't do anything, though didn't manage to finish the game so maybe late game at close range it would've shown it's true colours. The free subs are not bad at taking out small vessels or already weakened mediums though. Surprisingly good.

I also tested out the Cherbourg and a squad of x3 Toulons. Different story with these! The Toulons are eye-wateringly good for 2 main reasons: They can link their heat lancettes for absolutely devastating attacks at range band 3 and below. Secondly, even if you lose one of them you still have two very destructive linked heat lancettes to play with. This makes them more durable than the Cherbourg, but of course this comes with an appropriate price tag: 255pts for the squadron of x3. Still worth it though, in my eyes. They will be an auto-include from now on.

Cherbourg: x3 Heat Lances. For 110pts. Enough said. Only downside is that it could be considered a bit of a glass cannon, but it's not that weak in all honesty. I think you have to use it correctly: I was told to use it creep down a flank, perhaps supported by some aircraft or some small vessels. I did this and it survived the game whilst wiping out a small squadron and putting a load of damage on a medium vessel, making it's points back and then some. For me, it's another auto-include from now on. The price tag is very cheap for the amount of pain it can dish out, and it's going to be another "must-deal-with" unit for your opponent once he realises the pain it can dish out.

I am beginning to feel our best naval units are the mediums. I think i'd roll with x2 Cherbourghs and a squad of x3 Toulons and then a Couronne as the massive capital, just because I find it cheap for what it can give to an army (more SAS and a heavy heat lance to sit back and deal damage from afar) and that gives us more points to spend on the Medium heavy hitters.
I think this core needs some backing up though, because just spamming heat lances creates an unbalanced force (this aint 40K: balanced is much more rewarded) despite the fact that they are indeed rather flexible. If your opponent takes a lot of small or tiny units you wont be able to target them with these medium/large heat lance bearing vessels. This will create major problems. So I think I will back up with a sprinkling of Frelons and Voltaires or possibly Requins and Lyons.
The other weakness is that heat lancettes are rather short ranged: So I think some units with rocket battery weapons would be a good idea, to create that extra balance and long-range threat.

Anyone else played anymore games recently?
