Default Any Infinity players?

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone plays Infinity? It's very popular at my local FLGS alongside Malifaux and I am becoming less enthusiastic about 40k the more I dabble in other gaming systems.

I have been told it is so balanced that you really don't have to worry about playstyle: Just pick a faction that you like the look of and you can mould it to your style. Is this true?

I personally tend to go for fluff and models over playstyle anyway, but that said I do like to start with easy to-use factions in games (e.g Guild in Malifaux, Space Marines in 40k), just until I learn the rules and get a feel for the game.

Right now I am thinking of Nomads or Yu Jing, possibly Haaqislam for their nice background. What do people play here and what would you have to say about each faction?

Hey,

I've played a few times with Pan Oceana versus HaqqIslam. The playstyle is different per faction, but I'm not really adept enough to tell you just how balanced it is. It certainly unfolds differently to 40K, but to me it's just distinct, not necessarily better.

I've just got a bunch of Myrmidons of my own to play with... I shall have to fit them in to the general lineup of things to do, but at least painting even one model is a large chunk of the army done!

That is the beauty of systems like Infinity and Malifaux (and pretty much every game that isn't 40k lol)

I've been playing for about 4 1/2 years now.
I have 4 armies (PanO, JSA, QK and Aleph).
I collect the models I like and use them. Even lowly grunts can do hero stuff in this game. I've had 4 Light infantry take out a TAG in ARO (sure, I lost 2 of them to its dual heavy flamers, but IT died, too).

Hey! Where'd ... Everybody ... go?

I just bought the Yu Ching starter set. It was a hard choice, because so all their models look awesome. Yu Ching won it in the end for me though, based entirely on looks.

I'm just now starting infinity as well. I don't know any other players, but I have a couple friends that are starting at the same time. I'm still trying to choose an army. They are all pretty badass, but I think maybe ariadna w/ mercs? I want tags, but kilts also... I think the sneakyness of infinity is a fun concept, and the play style of the game lends itself well to custom scenarios.

After watching a lot of batreps and playing a bit more, here is my run down of the impressions that thr armies give me:

PanOceana - A very straightforward army with mediocre light infantry, excellent assault infantry and the premier gunline capability.

Yu Jin - better light infantry, better TAGs but more reliant on specialists and interoperability than the gun-slinging PanO.

Haqq-Islam - mediocre light infantry with some sneaky specialists, hard as nails doctors and hectic viral weaponry. Not a beginner's army.

Ariadne - Have not played, but appears to be excellent mid-range light infantry with some solod heavy support.

Nomads - Sneaky midfielders with cool looking elites... but i haven't seen them win.

Aliens - sadly i haven't seen these.

Aleph - solid midfield specialists, with Holy Moly Awesome Steel Legion. Myrmidons are very hard to kill and shoot well, spitfires in link teams and bulk rocket launchers clinching the deal. Haven't seen them lose yet.

Yu Jin - better light infantry, better TAGs but more reliant on specialists and interoperability than the gun-slinging PanO. PanO with a more CC slant, still has plenty of high tech to put on the table.

Haqq-Islam - mediocre light infantry with some sneaky specialists, hard as nails doctors and hectic viral weaponry. Not a beginner's army. Decent light infantry and awesome medium infantry. Some good infiltrating specialists. Relatively low tech. And yes, lots of units come with doctor options.

Ariadne - Have not played, but appears to be excellent mid-range light infantry with some solod heavy support. Low tech to the point of being immune to some of the high tech nation's hacking. Lots of camo models. Plus, SCOTTISH WEREWOLVES!

Nomads - Sneaky midfielders with cool looking elites... but i haven't seen them win. They are a faction full of tricks. Plenty of hackers and similar high technology. More about fighting smart than fighting well. If any army wasn't a beginner's army I would say these but even then it's not that big a deal.

Aliens - sadly i haven't seen these. Probably the Combined Army? They are a faction full of tricks but in a much more direct way than Nomads. They have amazing hard hitters (see the Charontid) and weapons like plasma rifles and the Sepsitor that allows you to possess enemy models.

Could also mean the Tohaa: They are very order efficient with plenty of fireteams and cheap specialists. Not any good at the hacking game and most of their guns are very short ranged.

Aleph - solid midfield specialists, with Holy Moly Awesome Steel Legion. Myrmidons are very hard to kill and shoot well, spitfires in link teams and bulk rocket launchers clinching the deal. Haven't seen them lose yet. About how I would describe them. Extra mention for the Steel Phalanx though. You can basically recreate the army of the Trojan war with Achillies, Ajax and Patroclus among others.
That's not quite how I would describe the armies. My experience/reading is in the snowmobiling above. I play Haqq/Tohaa.

I'm really trying to get this game off the ground at my FLGS atm. It's so awesome! Just beware the very steep learning curve involved with this game. Stick with it though, everything will "click" and it will all make sense after a few games.

@Calamari , looks like your group has a much better range of models... or at least a different one! We're still getting our head around it, so haven't really employed hackers yet. Haqqislam has come up against steel legion and PanO gunlines all the time, which has meant that its shorter ranged light infantry have just been decimated. Overall, I'm looking forward to seeing games more like what you describe above. And yes, by aliens I meant both races, haven't seen either on the table yet.
