Default First Timers FoW List

So then I have decided that in order to branch out from my usual opponents I would head to "that corner" of the LGC and indulge myself into WWII 15mm warfare. Looking around on the local message boards and the like I stumbled upon this gem and would like some insight into whther this will be a good beginners army. Not bad for 40 (RRP 112 from what I can work out)

1500 Pts - German Schwere Panzerkompanie List

Total List Cost: 1495

Company HQ, 225 pts
1 Tiger I E

Schwere Panzer Platoon - 430 pts
2 Tiger I E

Schwere Panzer Platoon - 430 pts
2 Tiger I E

Motorised Artillery Battery - 220 pts
1 HQ Section
2 Gun Section
2 10.5cm leFH18 howitzer

Schwere Panzer Pioneer Platoon - 190 pts
1 HQ Section
Schwimmwagen
3 Pioneer Squads
Sd Kfz 251/7 (Pioneer) half-track

We will be using the Hammer & Sickle ruleset (if that makes sense to anyone because it means bugger all to me :D)

It's got everything I look for in a list, except anti - aircraft. It would make a great base for an army should you want to expand though. I think this list would serve you well in almost all situations

Hammer and Sickle? Wow I didn't know people still had that lol. In saying that I've found all versions of the game to be great and am looking forward to testing 3rd edition.

I take it that the Hammer and Sickle is outdated then? Do the points change with different editions/books?

Not really they are pretty consistant it's mainly just updates on game play to make things easier or quicker. I know people still using first edition so it's no drama. If you check there website it explains the 3rd edition updates. I'd just play with what you have and if you like it think about updating to red bear or similar. It's Hammer and sickle, stalins onslaught, river of heroes and stalins europe combined .

Thanks for that, I need to find out what other books the club has. Also need to figure out what colour scheme I'm going to paint my miniatures as I want them as historically accurate as possible. Basically researching what army, company ect to paint them up as. What do you play out of interest?

I play a Fallshimjagerkompanie and SS Panzerkompanie Das Reich. I also have an 82nd Airbourne Parachute rifle company :D. The Flames of War website has heaps of historical articles to match armies and painting guides for them. Spend some time looking around it and you'll soon sus it out

I think that I am going to have to learn how to paint dunkelgelb, I'm thinking Charandon Granite basecoat, followed by Khremi Brown coats, then adding the browns and greens. Also I think that winter themed bases would look amazing so probably going to do a lot of heavy weathering effects. Am far mor eexcited about this project then any other

Thats not a bad resource at all, I'll probably do a similar effect to what I did with my black templars ash ground army. using masking tape and marmite(vegimite for you I guess) over the camo pattern for the bits I want revealed then wash the model in soapy water once dry, the marmite flakes off and makes it seem that someone has wiped off the whitewash to reveal the iconography of the vehicle.

Plus I been playing around with barcarbonate of soda and pva glue, not sure how good it'll work on the 15mm scale however. If it don't work I'll try something else
