Default 1000 Points Orks

Hi guys

Wanted a little feedback on the below list before I start purchasing, have been looking into Orks for a while now since nothing really floats my boat model wise and the below list contains some of my favourite looking models (Kans and Dredd) plus I may as well have Greenskins in WHFB and 40K

HQ: Warboss – 119 pts
‘Eavy Armour, Da Lucky Stikk, Power Klaw, Cybork Body

HQ: Painboy – 50 pts

Troop: 18 Slugger Boyz (Inc Nob) – 160 pts
Power Klaw, Boss Pole

Troop: 15 Shoota Boyz (Inc Nob) – 119 pts
Shootas, Boss Pole

Troop: 15 Shoota Boyz (Inc Nob) – 119 pts
Shootas, Boss Pole

Troop: 10 Gretchin – 35 pts

Heavy Support: 3 Killa Kans – 150 pts
3x Rokkit Launcha

Heavy Support: 3 Killa Kans – 150 pts
3x Rokkit Launcha

Heavy Support: Deff Dread – 110 pts
2x Power Klaws, Grot Riggers

Hey Ratvan good to see you back here kicking around the idea of a 40k ork army again.

I almost want to say give your warboss the finkin cap to try and get the ability to infiltrate your whole army but I would probably stay with your lukky stikk.

Me personally I would drop the grots and use the poits else where. Keep the kans close to the dread so they don't have to take a moral check. Otherwise I would probably change one of the kans from rokkits to grotzookas

I'd also maybe loose the grots and pickup a deff kopta. It can be quite handy to zoom about picking up Objectives, and blatting out the odd rokkit.

@morfangdakka thank you it's been a long time coming and I keep getting distracted by other Fantasy armies and Other Systems but time and time again I keep coming back to the Orks. I have been thinking for the best part of a week whether to go for Da Lucky Stikk or Da Thinkin Kap but in the end WS5 Slugga Boyz was what I went for in the end. I plan on keeping the Dredd in range of both Kan units for moral checks as mentioned and using this to offer some protection to the Boyz behind (typical Kan Wall Style). On the subject of the Grots I really cannot think of what it is that I would use the remainder of the Points for, maybe Big Choppa's on the Shoota Boyz Nobs and maybe an attack squig for the Warboss as well as a couple of Grotzooka's as mentioned?

@R_Squared , I plan on getting a load of Deffkopta's at a later date (2x 5 Koptaz with Rokkits with maybe a couple of Bigbomms) as well as one of the Fliers (Burna Bomber with Skorcha Missiles sounds fun) and more Grotz.

It's the Elites slots that is troubling me at the moment as I want Burna's and Tankhunters but it is to Trukk or Footslog that is confusing me at the moment, I do really like the thought of footslogging with Orks, I just don't really see my Warboss as anything but Snakebite Tribe!

Do that or get a couple of the 15 point meks and assign them to a squad that walks right behind the kans to repair them if they get damaged. Otherwise I would probably buy more boys to bulk up the units more.

Footsloggers all the way unless you are going for a tournament. I run two groups of footslogging tank bustas and one unit of burna boyz that are the bosses bodyguard. I tool up the tankbustas with 2-3 tank hammers and three bomb squigs since you can use tank hammers against everything now not just vehicles they are great in assault against marines. Ten burna boyz are always awesome as the bosses body guard. I them for drop pod units, jumpack unit or any other unit that deep strikes or gets to close to the boss. Ten flamer templates are a lot for any unit to withstand.

@morfangdakka, thanks that is actually a great idea Re: the Burna Boyz. I do have a couple of idea's about where I want the army to go but I think for the time being I need to build a 1k list that could go in either of the directions I am thinking of depending on how I like the army at 1k and any area's which I need to strengthen for my meta.

998 Points

Warboss - 104 pts
Da Finkin' Kap, Eavy Armour, Power Klaw, Cybork Body

Painboy - 50 pts

Mek - 20 pts
Rokkit Launcha

6 Burnas - 96 pts

20 Shoota Boyz - 154 pts
Nob, Bosspole

20 Shoota Boyz - 154 pts
Nob, Bosspole

15 Gretchin - 50 pts

Deff Dredd - 110 pts
2x Power Klaw

5 Killa Kans - 260 pts
3x Rokkit Launchas, 2x Grotzooka

Da Plan

If I roll Master of Ambush then I will be Infiltrating both Shoota Mobs and the Burnas (with Warboss and Painboy) the Mek joins the Gretchin who hide behind the Deff Dredd and Killa Kans who will keep in close range to each other for Morale Checks and the Mek to repair HP or loose the odd Rokkit if nothing better to do. If I don't roll that Trait then the Shootas will line up behind the Kan Wall with the Warboss and Burnas acting as a counter charge unit and protecting the Warboss with their flamers/power swords.

From here I can build either a full Footslogging list or start heading towards a Blitzbrigade list with Battlewagons (with Meganobz) and Trukks, Bikes ect ect without wasting money on other purchases (I still play Gorkamorka occasionally so the Gretchin will always come in use plus I have a soft spot for the little guys)

Right then, so I have managed to get my grubby mits on the Waaagh! Ghazghkull Supplement over the weekend and have cobbled together the following which I think will be more durable on the table top, with the added bonus that it'll get most of the building and painting of infantry out of the way early!

Total Roster Cost - 997 pts

HQ: Big Mek - 110 pts
Mega Force Field

Elites: Burna Boyz - 80 pts
3x Mek, 2x Burna

Troop: 23 Boyz (Inc Nob) - 201 pts
Shootas, Bosspole, Power Klaw

Troop: 23 Boyz (Inc Nob) - 201 pts
Shootas, Bosspole, Power Klaw

Heavy Support: Deff Dread - 100 pts
2x Power Klaw, 2x Skorcha, Grot Riggers

Heavy Support: 6 Killa Kans - 305 pts
5x Rokkit Launcha, Grotzooka

The Big Mek will join the Burnas who will baby sit the Kans and Dread and repair any lost hull points that get through the 4++ versus shooting, the boyz will hug cover and shoota and assault in proper orky style

I been buying and building already although not a single model from the above list but something to see if my idea for speed painting Bad Moons works. The two stage priming is complete just need to start the washes and a plog next!
