Raid is everyones friend.

Most people seem to have hit on the generality of what could be done to improve this.

QuadCore CPU

700W+ PSU

Drop the ATI, not only are ATI's SH*T, you have picked one the worst of them.
Nvidia is the way to go; a 240/250GT will do you or at a push, get a 9800GT

HDD's should always be Western Digital's if you can get them.

RAM is fine, you are not likely to need more and couldn't on a 32Bit OS, but if you feel the urge, as i did, to have more then you will need a 64Bit OS.

Tower Case choice makes no difference to the average user. As do the DVD/BR/CD Drives.

Better info needed on the MotherBoard before i can comment on that.

I used to think that too until I tried an ATI card, and it's done me very nicely. Typically i'd always choose Nvidia over ATI, but if you choose the right card you can sometimes get a much better deal on an ATI.

SACRILEGE! A pretty case is the most important part and if you have to put it together it's always nice to have a decent box that won't slice your hands up.

Two SLI'd 8800GTXs are still all that anyone needs.

Not only do games look fucking great, but you save a tonne on heating bills too. ;)

If you're a wimp use the generally-cooler 9800s, but don't blame me when things are colder than the better alternative.

I have a GTX 470 and its a beast, a 460 should be a pretty nice card and the price should come down a bit now that the 500 series is out.

I would go intel and nvidia rather then amd and ati, the Intel chips are still superior on most of the benchmarking tests, last time I looked anyway, and always preferred nvidia cards. My gaming beast with an I7 and gtx 480 is a thing of awe inspiring beauty! I stroke it every night and tell it what a good pc it has been!

no offense but some of the prices of the graphics cards you are suggesting is making my little teen wallet die a little inside. Please bear in mind I am a 15yr old teen that makes minimum wage.

I spent 1200 on my gaming rig, almost 500 of it on the video card. That is the horrid thing about Gaming PCs. The vid cards start off decent and then sky rocket to insane prices with almost no middle ground.

you wan't to whats sad? The GTX 460 is slightly slower than the GTX 560. Seriously, they had a demo at Fry's and the difference wasn't all that much. The GTX 470 should easily last you a while, no matter what the prices say. Fuck, my 9600 GT played Medieval 2 total war on perfect speeds with max graphs and is still a good card today. Its just marketing that makes one thing look like shit compared to another.
