About you not needing to appear, my mum had a traffic charge, and she was represented by her friend, and her lawyer, I am fairly sure its legit that you don't need to appear for such a minor charge.

Just make sure you got that in writing from your lawyer. I can't see the judge accepting your word for it if your lawyer is mistaken.

Hell, I go 75 (when traffic allows) down 64 East almost every day, early in the morning (around 7:15) and in the afternoon (between 12 and 1). I almost got pulled over once, but thankfully some idiot sped by, going 80+ in the right lane (I was in the left) just as I was about to merge over to the shoulder. The cop started chasing him instead, haha.

Good to know. If the needle creeps up to 80, I'm easing up.

Again, I can only speak for WA, but this is true here. Whenever I've had to go to traffic court there will be one or two lawyers each representing up to a dozen individuals, and the'll just go through them one at a time after everyone who showed up in person has been taken care of. A good lawyer can get you out of almost any ticket.
In fact in this state you can actually submit your case by mail. The judge reads it, makes his decision, and then they mail you back with the decision.

Here in Texas there are roads with no posted limits, and the limits that are posted on the highway are little more than suggestions. I cant remember the last time i saw someone pulled over on the highway and the flow is easily at 80+ at times. Cops go just as fast too. If it were me I would try the change the court day trick just in case too.

thanks varakir for the sig!

Yeah as other said you were breaking the law so you don't have anything to complain about. Also the way most people seem to treat speeding tickets shows how ineffectual they are at keeping people from speeding. Sounds to me that making the penalty worse for speeding is going to keep more people within the limit and make roads safer.

Jail time is a tad excessive however even if it is an extreme.

Go on just click the little guy you know you want to

yeah, I live in VA and I was definetlly going about 95 on Interstate 81... cop pulled me over, I didn't bullshit, he didn't, asked how fast I was going, I said "Pretty fast" he chuckled, gave me a ticket for 80 in a 70mph zone, said to slow it down and don't be late fore work next time.

Usually all you have to do is be cool, relax, and they usually cut some slack... or maybe it was the correctional officer uniform I was wearing, along with the sidearm, and the gray police interceptor I was driving. I don't know, but I was quite happy I didn't get reckless driving.

getting a lawyer was a great idea, usually you can get the reckless charge thrown out and be charged with another violation.

But they really might actually throw you in jail. I got guys and girls in myb prison in for reckless driving.

Have you considered that the law is likely a response to too many people saying" but I'm only going ... over the limit," and the amount that they were over kept creeping up?

You were going 16mph over the posted limit, and 6 over the minimum to make it the criminal instead of civil citation.
