Default Celebrities are they news?

I just watched a bit of Sky News while I had a brew. WTF is going on? Extended live coverage of the funeral of a woman famous for being ignorant. The caption on the screen actually said "Breaking News; Jades casket loaded into hearse".

I hope the girl rests in peace and i'm sorry she had to leave behind kids don't get me wrong. And the same for Liam Neesons family, my commiserations.

But the death of celebrities is not news is it? We are involved in a couple of wars and the world financial system is crashing around us. What is going on with the people who run these channels.

So are celebrities news or is there now no difference between news and gossip?

I find that celebrities are like dogs...they crave attention. Deprive them that and they will just fall by the wayside. There is nothing I hate more than watching a celeb bitch and complain on tv about how they can't adopt another fucking kid when I'm trying to comfort my best friends sister while he's in Iraq! I mean please there are waaaay more important things going on than a fucking celebs life! Oh somebody said I can't sing/act BIG Fucking Deal move on like everyone else! They are treated like gods, yet they are probably some of the LEAST important people on the planet! :rant over:

i think that they are news to an extent, but should be relegated to the last part of the news papers and news programs. i agree that when we have ourt brave servicemen and women dying in the name of freedom ect. having some stupid 50 year old moaning because the malawian courts didnt bow down to her is ridiculous.

I think the news covers it partly out of ratings, but also partly out of lack of content. I mean there's only so many ways you can break down the important news till you start repeating yourself. Of course the news does that from time to time as well, so I don't know what to tell you.

"Celebrity" is a catch all category for "can't remember what they're famous for", I think.

Amy Winehouse is a singer. Some people like her voice, some don't (I don't). Whether her boyfriend is in prison and whether she's been doing drugs are a matter of total ****ing indifference to me.

Paris Hilton is a ... I'm not sure. I don't even know why I should know who she is.

Jade Goody was on a programme I didn't watch, then was famous for... being ignorant, as Cabbage says. Not much more than as far as I can see.

Is there any reason for us to care? You really have to wonder what this 'cult of celebrity' stuff is all about.

More worryingly, there seem to be increasing numbers of children growing up who, when asked what they want do when they're older, reply "I want to be famous". For what? Err, just famous.

I exist in sole preparation for that day. Being the bottom of the intellectual scale is my vocation.
