at last-common sense! all flaming swords are bloody magical which cause more damage to your opponent! that is why you have a flaming sword-which is different to a sword set on fire.[mumbles darkly about morons and flaming swords...]

humm, true. This is yet again proof the Orks are smarter the Elves.-Micklez

Flaming swords follow one rule: the Rule of Cool. Logic and practicality have nothing to do with it. End of story.

Well, that is my $0.03 worth (damn you weak american dollar!)

It would be could to see a sword that has a small hose that you can use to squirt oil on your enemy before hitting him with the sword causing him to become a flaming mess *gasp*

I probably should have made the context of the question more clear, I did mean magical, (sorry to the people with the longer posts ) but still whats the point? itd do the same damn thing (besides the warping part but you get the point)

But if its magical A) you have sorcerous flames, B) we don't have the issue of the steel warping or breaking because its magical, and C) its magical, so we can't make any rules about it. Either way, however, think of the psychological effects of fire. Having a burning sword swung at you might provoke more fear (especially if its magical flames)

Yay for a tropes reference.

But magical fire can be created to burn more fiercely than any normal flame. Cauterizing may happen, but it could also leave a third-degree burn from one cut. Bad in the long term for multiple reasons, but even worse in the short since it'll burn away nerve endings.

Imagine trying to fight with no feeling in part of your arm. Or worse, your hand.

Sex. Plain and simple. I would light my big ass sword on fire just so the super hot slave chicks I just set free from captivity would be like, "I want the dude with the fire sword, he is so awesome and knows how to use a fucking sword that's on fire!!!"

It's all about the sex baby!

We didnt take into account attacking really hairy people.
Really hairy people or things are vulnerable to fire, and its makes a bad smell.

peace out
