Default If you can't beat 'em?

So I finally got around to seeing the new Red Dawn, it was meh. But getting to the point. At 1st I really hated that kid who sided with North Korea, I don't remember what he was called, but after a bit of thinking about it, at what point does it go from treason to embracing a new regime? This question can go with any country really. Say your country straight up collapses and someone else steps in whether it's by force or some other means. Would you go down fighting a last man standing war or accept whats happening?

This one is pretty simple. The new regime will see it as just embracing the new regime, and the people fighting from the old will see it as treason.

For me it is case by case: if a regime that required acts abhorrent to me attacked I might fight or leave; if a new regime peacefully stepped in to fix issues I would probably support it.

Some of the stuff and opinions in here might interest you. Not sure why the thread died probably outlived its usefulness.

Think of it like this.

Would you ever want to live under a country whose soldiers raped murdered and burnt everything you knew?

And so history repeats itself

Depending on the force seizing control (and how) I'd probably try to maintain my quiet existence.

If that something includes Scarlett Johansen and whipped cream then I'm all for it

In all seriousness though, I'd genuinely try to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible.

In a sense the story of Red Dawn romanticizes the true ideal of fighting for ones country. It is the idea that when one's home has been invaded even the most peace should take up arms and fight back. The one problem with this is is that if it were that simple the world would have many small ethnic wars occuring right now.

Shas'Ui you have a point, he was simply trying to protect himself. The part I believe personally though is when his actions lead to the suffering and/or death of his freinds and neighbors by the enemy's hands. also it has to do with whether or not the knew ruling faction is truely your enemy.

If the Russia took over the U.S everyone would fight. Why, simply because the last 50 years Russia was our sworn opposite; and it's ingrained in almost everyone's mind through mass media. But what if China took over......believe me or not I've heard many a discussion where people would not have a problem with that. Some say Mexico, or even the British would be better govenors of America. My opinion is that it boils down to where you consider home; and whether or not the new folks are considered your enemy.
