Default France running secret surveilance program

From: France running secret surveilance program

An investigative report by a French daily paper has discovered its government is running a secret intelligence-gathering operation much like the PRISM system in the U.S. and its U.K. counterpart.

Good for them. Considering that their second largest city (Marseille) barely has any French people left in it, I kind of don't blame them for doing some wiretapping.

I just view it as proof that what Snowden 'exposed' is nothing new for any developed country with a intelligence agency.

Government spying on it's own citizens? Who on earth would think that would ever happen?

Funny enough, OtherGuy has said pretty much what I was going to; but to hell with it:

Damnation is paved on good intentions; subtle and sugar coated or blunt and honest
A hero is someone who steps up when everyone else backs down.
Popularity is what people strive for when they lack the strength to be themselves.

Seriously, is it really that hard to write reviews without spoilers?

I don't know why they bother. All they have to do if they need that info is get a court order and access the records of the various telecom companies. Far easier than allocating the resources of your intelligence apparatus to do it.

So true it's frightening. I vaguely remember reading something around the time of the Paris riots in '07 or '08 that if things keep going the way they are France could be an Islamic republic by 2030.

France. An Islamic Republic. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, sorry, that's so funny... OT: of course they spy on their citizens, all countries do, the only limit being the technology available to those doing the spying.......

Off topic a bit: Most european nations have about 85% white european populations, over half of whom are atheists, the idea that some tiny group of immigrants can somehow overthrow the native populations and impose their religious laws on us is absolutely preposterous. Seriously, do some reading on European demographs before coming out with such silly ideas as a french islamic republic.....

Good luck dude, France spawned the idea's of Liberty and Democracy. If it gets bad enough the French people will rise up and fight; it's in their blood.

On another note I think that honestly with all the connectivity we have it was bound to happen. It's just another sign that world governments are abusing their citizens and don't give a fuck about anyone earning less than $40,000 a year.

I think you'll find it was the Greeks (Athens in particular) who spawned the idea of democracy... Not the French.
