I can see the benefits of rebuilding. As it stands the school remains a site where a terrible act took place, with the current layout remaining unchanged prompting memories of what happened.

If it's torn down, it can be rebuilt in a new configuration which may help with the healing process

So in other words instead of manning up and facing the bad memories it's better to bury them and pretend that it never happened.

That's called sheltering nothing ever good comes from it.

personally i think its dumb...but i mean if the people there are willing to "waste" their tax money on a new school, for one that is not old or in need of major repairs.

kinda like if your local professional sports team wants their barely 20 year old stadium rebuilt...with tax payer money.

if they want to renovate it and turn the classroom(s) of the tragedy into a memorial then i can be ok with that. but as Reaper45 mentioned, to destroy it and rebuild it is akin to running away from reality.

It's also called progress in some areas of the world, it's why there isn't a pile of rubble on WTC 1, 2, and 7. That being said, don't demolish the building, just repair it and move on.

I am told that bloodstains and the lingering odour is very difficult to remove with out a complete re-build.

Renovation is a huge difference between demo or a completely new location. I think renovation is a good choice but anything else is a huge sink of money that is getting harder and harder for the states to support.

Forgetting for the moment the monetary aspect of this... Renovations to the school can have a healing effect on those involved in the shooting. They are given a chance to return to the site, to make peace with what transpired, and yet it isn't thrown in their face because it is not the identical place it once was. Different enough to be comforting while still being similar enough to promote acceptance and recovery.

So... fuck the money, do it because it will help people in the long run.

Personally I'd go with the renovation as opposed to a complete re-build...

I can assure you that's not the case. Replacing the dry wall and insulation will remove most of the smell. The rest can be removed with chemical cleaners.
