Default Why does Venom /Carnage / ect... look like Spider Man? (Comic Fans)

Lol, quite a random question, but I was wondering for those of you that read comic books (or have in the past), Why is it that every time the Symbiote Suit takes over someone or something, it has "Spider Man" looks?

Was it just for the sake of Designing, or is there a story behind it?

Thanks guys, I've googled it and all I get is people talking about Spider Man 3...

I assume because it has connections with Spider-Man, so tries to emulate his physical prowess, but also improve on it. Also, it depends partly on the subject it's bonded to. E.g. Eddie Brock designed the styling of his outfit when he bonded to it. Or at least that's the story-line excuse.
And to be fair it doesn't look that similar. Venom is black/dark blue with pointy teeth, a massive tongue and weird-ass designs everywhere. Carnage looks even more dissimilar, being far more insect-like with little resemblance to the humanoid wall-crawler.

Spiderman was Venoms first host so he took in this vague appearance albeit black. After getting separated from Spiderman, who he hates with a passion, Venom attacked himself to Eddie Brock who also hated Spiderman so Venom retains this kind of parody of Spiderman image.

I don't know if it's ever explained, but it seems to be because, Spiderman was the first host, Venom hates Spiderman and Vemon is almost always fighting Spiderman.

They might look different, but in the end, Venom and all his pawns look like a Deformed version of Spider Man.

And more but I don't recall their names.

Tho it's a good point about being the 1st host.

Initially, when Peter Parker recieved the symbiote, it was during the first Secret Wars. When his original suit was destroyed in a battle. He followed some of the avengers (who had created new uniforms) and used a machine that gave him a black globe. The globe expanded into his new, black costume.

It could be said that the base appearance of the symbiote occured when it initially bonded with Spiderman. It could also be stated that because the suit (and Eddie Brock) hated Spiderman, that they replicated the look to discredit Spiderman.

It could further be said that because the parent (symbiote) was bonded into that form, the offspring would all be similar to that appearance.

**But really, probably just a plot point!

Aramaro and Arli pretty much nailed it.... Its basically because the 'vemon symbiote' being a symbiote, absorbs and enhances its host to make it a more perfect host to sustain it... hence because Spiderman was the first host, it absorbed his abilities and enhanced them, and so aquired them for itself and its hosts....

Okay, pretty thin excuse i know, but thats pretty much the reasoning behind it.... That and really, theres only so many skin-tight costume designs you can create that are fully covering.

Actually the whole bonded with spidey story doesn't add up, all the symbiote species look similar. I think it is just a coincidence.

Well as said... comics wise, spiderman was the first host and the first symbiote we saw, so to identify one, people would expect it to look a certain way.

Take another example.... Cybermen. Everyone knows they're meant to have the handlebar heads and the silver metalic bodies. Even the early ones had that to a degree. Hence, if it doesn't look like that.. its just not a Cyberman.

Now, what if the first one we'd seen had looked like Data from star trek? We'd expect all cybermen to have pastey white skin and yellow eyes instead would we not? Would you know something is a symbiote in the Spidey comics if for instance it looked like a giant bird, or had a cape? Probably not...

So.. because spiderman was the first host, everyones got an expectation that symbiotes should look something like him.

Perhaps they have some sort of collective subconscious that led to them modifying their appearance - I don't know where exactly that image of them all is from, but if they all exhibited powers akin to Spidey that would certainly follow.
