Modest Mouse - Saw them live back in 2006: Amazing set.
Godspeed - Haven't heard them in ages, thanks for reminding me of them!

Naaah, the vocals are the weakest part of the album--the focus on them distracts from the actual music of the song and lets them get away with kinda samey-stuff rather than the dynamic range of their first album. There are some top-notch songs on the new album, still: "Can't Kill Us," "Mind of a Beast," "Our Demons"...

To my surprise, though, hearing them live that feeling on my part lessened. The difference between their normal songs and the songs with some canned lyrics added in weren't altogether too distance. So a small mercy for the live show, I guess, keeping the overwhelming quality running throughout.

Their remixes also tend to be great. Drink The Sea Part II: The Mixtape, for instance, or More Voltage. Not so much the Drink The Sea: The Remixes Vo.1 & 2, though... yeuch. Only a few good songs throughout those 30, since other less talented musicians were doing the mixing. ...Best part about all these, though, is the fact that they're free on the Glitch Mob's site.

It makes me happy to know this, my friend.

That was the first Weakerthans track I ever witnessed performed. It was at a John K. solo gig and he played it after half a dozen tracks off Provincial, it was so nice. The dude sounds almost exactly the same live vocally as he does recorded. I've seen him twice solo now, I have yet to catch the band when they tour through Toronto. One of the few bands I will deal with large crowds of people for.
