leinad-yor As a side note if you make your Vanguard a take all comers unit you can equip some models with 1 LC and 1 PF, it's 10 points more than a pair of LC's but you still get the extra attack for 2 specialist weapons. You only need one LC for the re-rolls now instead a pair like it used to be, so you can choose which weapon to attack with based on the save you need to negate or the toughness of the model you need to take out.

I have 2 modeled this way for when I run a full 10 man squad, the new version of the Heroic Intervention allows for you to multi-charge with out it being a disorderly charge. So you can wipe out some thing heavy and stay locked in with something squishy.

Straken's_Fist I was wondering the same thing, as I have 25 assault marines that I can't be bothered to plunk on ebay and have been thinking of ways to turn them into a Ravenguard allied detachment to my Salamanders. I want to stick to fluff for both so thought RavenGuard could provide all the fast attack units my Salamanders lack so would compliment each other nicely.

I have thought about using this guy: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhamme..._KORVYDAE.html since all my games are friendlies and non-competitive.

He makes Assault Squads troop choices, but you must take a scout squad with land speeder storm to unlock this, which to me is fine since I wanted to run that unit anyway.
His rules are in IA8 and he is a reasonable 160pts, comes with iron halo, TH, melta bombs, krak grenades and that unlock ability. Perhaps an option if you play with people who are fine with FW.

If not then Shrike seems like an auto include (though is a tad pricey). Then I was thinking of Vanguard Veterans either a 5 man or full 10 man squad depending on size of the game, with 2 or 3 storm shields and perhaps a grav pistol. Nothing else though, because that alone is expensive, and when tooled up with dual lightning claws or TH/SS they become insanely expensive...Then of course infiltrate them with Shrike.

I think x5 Vanguard with jump packs, x1 grav pistol and x2 storm shields comes to something like 160pts.

THis is very good to know, i think the vanguard elite choice works well if you use them correctly as you have, I am going for the same setup pretty much

Deus Mortis Glasgow? I'm in Glasgow! Where do you game? Sorry for intruding

Lanfear Hey Jim. If you live anywhere near Glasgow I could give you an opportunity to slap the dark blue bats down?
My regular opponent and raven guard fanatic, the other Jim, has handed out his fair share of beat downs. We generally get a bit of banter going before we play the next game in our linked campaign. He is a fluff stickler as opposed to power gaming. I too tend to take fluffy stuff that I like but is not always successful.
Mate, if you like the raven guard fluff, go for vanguards with claws with Korvydae or shrike leading them. It's your choice if you want substance and fluff. I like playing my mate Jim's raven guard because he goes for narrative fluff as I do. It adds up to a more richly satisfying experience that in the end, it doesn't matter who wins, as long as the game was fun and captured our imagination.

I know you want lightning claws for raven guard fluff and they look cool too of course. What about a couple of guys with dual claws and a couple with storm shields for safety? Otherwise hammer and shield terms dropped off from a stormraven are your best melee bet. Not very raven guard fluffy though I guess.
Anyway, I look forward to my Night Lords collecting a raven guard trophy for my spike racks when next we encounter.
Ohhhh i love a challenge...

I'd love to see my fluffy raven guard tear through you're chaos bat's. Backing out was a wise decision

haha

Lanfear Ha, apologies for the wayward gauntlet hurling Jim. I mistakenly thought you were my regular opponent, also called Jim and also a raven guard fanatic seeking fluffy ways to use his raven guard. Turns out he is nestor73 on this forum. It seems he will attend to my Night Lords with his ravens and not yours. Cheers.

ntaw Due to Shred one LC out preforms a PS at the same cost in points. Even taking one per model ain't so bad in terms of points cost, plus you still get claws all over the place.

What I'm saying is you're paying 15 points for one more attack. Do you need that one extra attack?
