You're one of my favorite human beings now haha

I can really say my two biggest genres are Black metal and Death metal. Gorgoroth and Emperor really got me into Black metal, I absolutely loved Gaahl's influence, and was saddend he didn't stick around with the band. In regards to Death metal, Death and Bloodbath are what got me into it, and they're still some of my top bands!

Captain_Daerys_Arrun Black Metal - Immortal Pure Holocaust

I'd tried black metal CDs before and the music never seemed to make any sense is the best way of putting. I probably had ten CDs by ten different people and I didn't like any of them. I picked up the Immortal CD and for some reason it clicked. So I bought the rest of theirs. When I went back and listened to those other CDs they made sense now to.

chromedog Bands and songs don't get me into 'genres' - they get me into following that band if I like them. Whilst I might like a few bands who all seem to be in the same 'genre', it's because I like their songs, NOT because they are all in the same genre. I can like some metal bands and not others, for example.
I can like Nightwish (older stuff, not keen on the newer sound) and loathe dragonfarce (but to me, they sound like a pastiche of a cliche of bad 80s power metal (that I lived through the first time).

I loathe 'grunge' for example, but a few songs were ok, and I didn't mind soundgarden. :D

Captain_Daerys_Arrun I really wasn't into music much at all, just listened to whatever was popular at the time. Then I saw the music video for One on MTV and it was game over. I've listen to practically nothing but metal ever since.

DeathJester921 Think Disturbed is what pulled me into metal at first. Started listening to FFDP as well as other bands that would play on KFMX here in Lubbock. Nowadays I listen mainly to European metal bands, but still stick faithfully to Disturbed and FFDP. In Flames is a more recent addition to my list. Hammerfall, Manowar, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth are some others that I listen to.
