Ok so this is a bit of a Necro... but I thought it pointless to create a new thread if one was already there. Anyway, spotted this earlier today...
The Expendables 3 (2014) - Full cast and crew
If they manage to get all the people listed there in it (including the rumoured ones) I think it might even surpass the previous one in cheesy-over-the-top action scenes and inter-textual references. Mila Jovovich is an interesting addition and, given her film history, one could argue she is the female equivalent of the male cast, albeit she looks WAY better in a dress than any of them do. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd one so I have high hopes for this one.
Only sad part is I see no Willis or Norris listed. Boo I say... Boo.
On a random note... did anyone else know Chuck Norris is fucking 73 already??? The dude could easily pass for someone 10 years younger.

I've been a fan of all these action heroes at one time or another and have seen the majority of their movies. Being able to see them in a crossover/ last mission is kind of satisfying in a way that appeals to the kid in me who used to argue with my friends about who was a bigger badass.
In a way, these movies are a swan song/coda to the (last) action hero movies of the 1980s and 1990s. There are presently no action heroes (though a friend of mine argued for Denzel Washington, and I do agree she does have a point) to take up the mantle.

I went to an industry event last year and the director shot a 5 minute bit about Expendables 2 which has got my hopes up. It was essentially him walking around the set of the first action scene announcing the destruction.
"See that wall - we're going to blow that up. All those cars will be on fire. That will explode. Some guys will get thrown through that window. On fire. Then it'll explode"
Seems to have a pretty good sense of humour about it, and lets not forget he directed Con Air. If it's half as good i'll be very satisfied.

Sadly not the ones I remember =(
but in the same category as super sucky is what Steven Spielberg did to "War of the Worlds".... I will never forgive him for that utter piece of utter wankyness committed on to film!
then theres Pearl Harbour..... but I think I should stop there.... otherwise I could be a while... oh hang on that was a Michael bay as well....... GRRRR!!!

Michael Bay sucks ass! and ruined my transformers by turning it into a cheesy teen sex movie!!!
Anyway, that outburst aside, as others have said, expendables is a great action - leave you brain at the door - movie... I call 'em pop-corn movies as they dont have much more substance than that!
Despite my self, I really enjoyed the first one, and will certainly be watching the second, and to know theres a third with Clinty, Snipes and Cage....well shit!... I'l have me some of that action too!

[Edit]: I'll add butthurt alert!
Now Varakir gives a good example of leave your brains at the door action in "Shoot'em up." Now that is the perfect satire of gun flicks. What I don't get is people complaining about Michael Bay films being all explosions and nothing else, while watching this kind of film without giving a damn.
I am not looking for "cerebral, life altering mysticism" when I go to the cinema. But by god a little bit of effort into making a film wouldn't hurt. Its a B movie given the budget of a Triple A film.
Yeh, something about these films really drive me nuts.

Its leave your brain at the door action stupidity and I love it for those exact reasons. Not every film has to be a cerebral, life altering experience, sometimes its nice to just switch off and be entertained.
The eighties and early nineties were full of these sorts of films, Cobra, Tango and Cash, Raw Deal, Commando the list goes on. They were terrible films with terrible scripts and terrible acting but they were also incredibly entertaining.
