neilbatte They don't count as moving if you put the mega armoured or with them as the slow and purposeful rule from mega armour benefits them all.
As to when they arrive thats a risk every one takes and on a 3+ it's not to bad.

Never mind. I was under the impression that ICs couldn't be assigned to squads in reserve. Since they can, I'd say that the Lord Commissar is the better choice by far.

Neilbattle, the only problem there is that you can't be certain that they'll come on when you want. Since they come in from reserve, they miss between 1 and 3 full turns of shooting, and that isn't counting the turn that they come in and have to snap fire.

neilbatte I'm planning on attaching either an orc warboss or big mek in mega armour to mine and maxing out on heavy weapons meaning I can deploy the full platoon and unleash a mass of heavy weapon fire on the turn they enter, yes I'll lose snap fire for the first turn, but I can't see there being much left to assault me after a massed platoon worth of fire without disrupting the whole battleline.

Nave Senrag Keep in mind that whatever HQ you take won't be able to come onto the board with Al'rahem. So the HQ that you take should be one that provides the most benefit to your army. Considering the Lord Commissar only provides benefits Imperial Guard units, I'd go with the Primaris instead.

scscofield Would you guys stick a Lord Commissar or a Primaris with them? Thinking in terms of a allied detachment for now.

neilbatte If you can find an allied model with the slow and purposeful rule then I'd say go heavyweapon heavy that way you can deploy on the side and unleash as many heavy weapons from your big blob as you can manage ruining anyones day.

Nave Senrag My advice would be to put Al'rahem on foot because it's easier to lose five guys in a group of 55+ than it is to miss a chimera, take the full five squads and put a heavy weapon in each one. Maybe throw in a few special weapon squads with melta or plasma if you really want to. That way you have a group that can come in shooting, and can be a group that your opponent has to either confront with a lot of units(leaving your main force unopposed), confront with a few units(Al'rahem's platoon takes them down and links up with your main force), or ignore them(your main force takes a beating, but you get to really have fun with Al'rahem). I'd stay away from heavy weapon squads. Unless this is your only platoon, you'll want them firing every turn, even though you can more or less guarantee that the platoon will be coming in on the second turn by using an astropath.

Tim/Steve I'm building a Tallarn theme army at the moment, so I've thrown in Al'Rahem for a bit of fun. I'm just taking it on foot so I can be highly offensive (less armour means more guns). My outflanking platoon is basic PCS, 2 infantry squads with plasma and 2 special squads with meltas and demo charges... should give me plenty of guys to throw at objectives but still pack a lot of punch with 4 melta shots, 2 demo charges, 5 plasma shots and a possible 54 las shots (before orders)...

I don't think you need an armoured spearhead with Al'Rahem; it costs a huge amount (almost doubling the cost of most units) for not much... but I do think its worth giving a chimera for Al himself, especially if you give his unit lots of upgrades. I'm keeping my PCS bare to try to stop him looking like a good target (I want to keep him there for giving orders)...

Al'rahem tactics, is he worth the points?

The ability to plop a full platoon of IG onto the side of a board looks fairly amazing, especially in the new ruleset. What would be a good choice for him? Mech? Foot? Mix of both? A Lord Comm in a Chimera with a HWS, a PCS in a Chimera, and 5 IS in Chimeras ripping up the board from a side sounds kinda spiffy to me.
