I'm not crazy about all the vocals on the latest album, but I really like the last 2 discs.
Naaah, the vocals are the weakest part of the album--the focus on them distracts from the actual music of the song and lets them get away with kinda samey-stuff rather than the dynamic range of their first album. There are some top-notch songs on the new album, still: "Can't Kill Us," "Mind of a Beast," "Our Demons"...
To my surprise, though, hearing them live that feeling on my part lessened. The difference between their normal songs and the songs with some canned lyrics added in weren't altogether too distance. So a small mercy for the live show, I guess, keeping the overwhelming quality running throughout.
Their remixes also tend to be great. Drink The Sea Part II: The Mixtape
, for instance, or More Voltage
. Not so much the Drink The Sea: The Remixes Vo.1 & 2
, though... yeuch. Only a few good songs throughout those 30, since other less talented musicians were doing the mixing. ...Best part about all these, though, is the fact that they're free on the Glitch Mob's site.
