Hmm. "Warrior Concerto" by the Glitch Mob springs to mind--it's a cover/remix of some concerto of Vivaldi's, though the name eludes me.

Honestly, I'm fairly partial to Amanda Palmer's covers of Radiohead hits. F'rnstance: "No Surprises"

Melancholy, sedate, wrenching and powerful is Justin Vernon (singer for Bon Iver) covering another favorite and underappreciated artist I very much like, Anas Mitchell, with: "Coming Down"

Quite an interesting wealth of covers comes from the AV Undercover, where the Onion AV Club gets 25 fairly famous bands to cover 25 famous songs per year. Quite a few disappointments in there, but also some glorious covers, like GWAR covering Kansas's: "Carry On My Wayward Son"

CSM Plog, Tactica

What sphinx of plascrete and adamantium bashed open their skulls and ate up their brains and imagination? Imperator! Imperator!
