Default Necron Abyss Q's:

Heya Heresy,

I've never used Necron Abyss before, until last night, when i used when basecoating 3 different miniatures last night... go figure

Well I just had a few questions about the colour:

1: Is Necron Abyss supposed to be "shiny". When it dries it looks like I painted varnish over top of it...

2: If it's supposed to be "shiny", then how would I use it on a model. My current formula for painting my Nids is as following:

-Necron Abyss Base

-20% to 80% Bleached Bone & Regal Blue etc.

How should I paint necron abyss (if it really is shiny) if it will make all the layers on top look... well crapy...

thanks,

-LugNutz

Necron Abyss is a really dark foundation colour which like hormagaunt purple doesn't seem to stand out much once you apply it over chaos black. If you're painting regal blue I'd go with mordian blue as your basecoat.

well to correct Sullen one, while painting it, necron abyss does not seem to be much different to chaos black, BUT it gives a black tinted look, in which I would then put highlights over to further "colour" the model, it works very well, and I can show some pics of me using Necron abyss as a highlight even, in which it clearly is seen.

it does turn out a tad glossy, yes. you should be using matte or Gloss varnish when your done the model anyway to even it all out.

Necron Abyss is Dark Blue, not black....

Remember that a normal blue will not give you the same results as a foundation due to the finer and higher pigment count of the foundation paints. As a downside the binding agent in the foundations sometime do seem a bit shinier then your typical paints. As mentioned above as you paint over it you will get rid of most of the gloss and a final coat of dull coat or matte finish varnish will get rid of the shine.
