Default Metallic Red?

I was thinking of repainting my world eaters with a metallic red theme and was wondering what would be the best method to do this. I do have an airbrush and compressor so base coating is no problem.

I was thinking of mixing blood red with some boltgun metal, but I'm scared that it'll become more pink than red.

My second idea is to base coat with boltgun metal and the just do a few washes, starting with some badab black to some definition and then going over with a few layers of Baal red. Here's an example of the technique I planned on using for the second idea http://4shortened.blogspot.com/2010/...uick-sexy.html

I would appreciate any ideas or input as to which idea would be best, or if there are any alternative ideas that you might think is better. Thanks in advance

I would probably go with a gold base coat, Badab Black for definition then thinned down washes of red gore and baal red.
That is just a guess though!

Yes the washes work really well for what you want to do. I painted my eldar doing that, chainmail with a blue wash over it. Couple coats and looks really good.

I should change my name to Number 1. Not because I am conceited but because thats what I always roll at inopportune moments.

Try boltgun metal and red gore.

Bolt Gun or chainmail with a few coats of Baal red wash should do the trick or mix bolt gun with mecrite red or scab red, as the silver will lighten the tint of the red

I have never used it but you said you have an airbrush.

Barring that mix a metallic silver base with red ink, P3 makes some or you can pick it up almost any art store, its Red Acrylic Ink. Should make a nice bright red that you can shade and even remix slightly for highlights.

Have you seen The Wraithlords Thousand Sons?

He uses a wash straight on the metallic, it has a really nice effect. Obviously, this is with a blue wash instead of red. But it should have largely the same effect.

The issue is washing over metallics is if you mess up your fucked, its hard to correct a mistake. If you premake a metallic red you can correct mistakes still just like normal.

this metalic red was done with the following technique

1: chainmail over chaos black spray
2: gryphone sepia over chain
3: ogryn flesh into recesses
4: multiple coats of baal red (about 7 i think)
5: seal with matte spray to achive a deep red look

there is no 'overkil'l, there is only 'open fire' and 'time to reload'
It's an age old dilemma. You want to set everything on fire, but you can't steal stuff while it's burning. Don't let your passions run away with you! Do things in the correct order! Pillage, THEN burn!

its all fun and games till someone loses an eye, then its fun and games without depth preception.
