Default Oblit alternatives?

Time to start thinking about Obliterators for my chaos army.

I love the concept behind them, and they are decidedly tzeentchy, warped by the power of change blah blah blah.

However, the actual Oblit mocels are quite frankly, FUGLY!

Current plan is to make double size flamers and have Daemonic entities that throw out malicious power.

Using this as a base.

but changing the heads for Chaos Marine bits, adding some horror arms etc, though I'm not entirely sold on the idea.

Any other ideas from the community as to what I could use?

They look like a great replacement for flamers but not obliterators. I've always liked the idea of using fantasy ogres as the base for some obliterators, maybe give that a go.

I have to agree with that statement, these won't pass for Oblits no matter what you do. My suggestion is to use Chaos Terminators as a base for them. For example:

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

A friend of mine did oblits as terminator sorcerers. Just take any terminator and add a staff and some dynamic pointing poses. Call them warcasters or battle mages. Fluff wise all thousand sons that had psychic power or potential didn't change to animated suites of armor. These are just the terminators that didn't change, every "weapon" they use is just another spell. Plus its nice to see some thousand sons terminators on the field.

Have you thought about using warjacks?

I know they aren't GW models, so may not be an option - but some of the cryx jacks have a nice tzeentchy feel to them.

Another option I've seen some people do is use oblits as "weapon teams" - two Chaos Marines on a large base, one with a powerfist, the other with a suitable heavy weapon. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of one.

Here we go...something like these:

And what shoulder, & what art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp, Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears, And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

That just might be the ticket. I might mess a little with the concept, but I really like that.
