painting the sexy dar

Hi all yall cool knowledgeable gamers out there! I'm an avid 40k player and I

need your help! I've been collecting eldar for many a long year but never truly

settled on a paint scheme. But now is the time! So far this is what I am

thinking: primary color is lich purple with possibly some warlock purple

highlights. But, what then? Codex or fortress gray wouldn't be bad for a tertiary

color although not really noticeable. I've been told that colors opposite each

other on the color wheel look good and stand out so possibly some yellow

flames? I can't decide. what is your opinion almighty gaming community?

if purple is your primary color, i reckon that bone / cream, would act as a rather nice foil to that...only way to decide for sure is to paint up a few test models to see which scheme you like best.

you'll have to post some photos, and show us what you've come up with

dark angels seventh company
skaven horde
the warriors of ulthuan

foible - foi·ble / ˈfoibəl
noun: a minor weakness or eccentricity in someone's character:

I have a personal hatred of the colour Yellow, so I'd advise against it.

Dheneb Stone/Bleached bone on the other hand, is one of my major go-to secondary and tertiary colours. Grey would also give you a nice pastel air to the army, instead of the neon 1990s-style Eldar paint scheme.

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.

Are you planning on personalising your aspect warriors, or will the scheme only be for Guardians and tanks?

I would go with maybe not bone (done extremely often with purple) ide go with either red or silver even. Since purple is very much related to red it will go nicely together and e very easy on the eyes as well. Silver on the other if done properly will look good too since silver is a shade of gray it is a neutral color that will go with anything kinda like black or white. For highlighting on purple you can can a directions here such as gray, pr diffrent shades of purple for a more realistic highlightingalso use ashurman blue in the recesses this works great for shading liche purple.

Now what i would do is do my base of liche purple then wash it with ashurman blue then clean it up with liche purple making sure to leave the blue in the recesses.
For the highlight use warlock purple then use a final highlight of Tentacle Pink.

I definitely think that a light grey would go very well with the purple, a subdued scheme, but nontheless one that will look good on the battlefield without being to flashy. However, if they grey is too dark it will just blend in with the purple, so make sure its around the brightness of fortress grey, maybe a little darker, if you decide to go with this scheme. Good luck with the painting!

Thank you for your lovely comments! I've been looking and posting on several forums such as this and gotten some good advice in addition to this picture!:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/index/w...m/GW/id/121896

This is exactly what i'm looking for! I think thats base coat liche puple with warlock purple hightlights and a slight touch of skull white on the very edges of the armor. Am I right in that assumption and if so, how in the world do I learn to get that precision? Help plz!

Rule number one of high quality painting: Practice. Practice. And guess what, practice.Take your time to start, don't try and rush through the models.

I have personally stripped and re-painted my Howling Banshee's three times, as they eventually start looking poorly painted as I keep practicing and improving. I am starting to hate re-painting them.

Not sure about the skull white edges; it looks more like bleached bone.

I thin there is also a Hormagaunt Purple wash over the top

As well as taking your time, try:

(i) several watered down coats instead of one thicker coat; this will both make the transitions smoother and mean if you do slip it is less noticeable.

(ii) use the edge of the brush for hard edges instead of the tip as it is easier to follow the edge and keep consistent pressure that way.

(iii) an all over wash after all the highlights to draw everything together.
