Default How the **** do I get this shade of red?

Hey all. I'm new to this section of Heresy, so please be nice!

I've been playing Flesh Tearer Space Marines for a few years now but the one thing that's always irked me is that I can't seem to figure out how to paint "Flesh Tearers red" properly. Today I finally decided to ask for help here on Heresy. Here's an image of the colour I'm after.

Can anyway help me out? I'm looking for an easy to follow step-by-step explanation of what I need to do to get this shade. Obviously I'm not asking for a full tutorial with pictures or anything.

Thanks for reading!

Katie D

Basecoat Mechrite Red (Foundation paint)
Wash Badab Black
Highlight Scar Red.
Edge Blood Red (if you like the traditional space marine edging they do)

This might be a touch darker then the red shown, but it's what I use on all my reds.

Isn't there a guide for it in the Blood Angels Codex?

Looks like Scab Red to me however with maybe a mixed Badab Black and Red wash, as mentioned above.

I would very much like to know how to get that red. I have just started a flesh tearers army. I am just waiting on my combat squad to get to me so I can practice the scheme.
I do not want to steal this thread but it is about getting a certain red for my flesh tearers.
How do I get this red and also the skin colour ?

Oh, you mean that free pamphlet for download on GW's site? No, it doesn't touch on painting.

If you mean the 3rd edition Blood Angels Codex than yes, it does talk about painting red, but only how to paint Blood Angels, not Flesh Tearers. There's a big difference in brightness. I'll certainly dig it up and see if I can use any of its tips.

Thanks very much for the advice thus far everyone. You have no idea how much I appreciate it!

What about the 2nd ed one? I have the Ultramarines one and it has loads of swatches for the Ultramarine descendants.

It certainly looks a scab red shade to me with a darker wash on it. A bit similar to how I painted some Caledorian High Elf armour.

Hm, no, I don't own Codex: Angels of Death. I could look around for it, though. Thanks for the idea!

Just grabbed it and I have only found 1 photo of a Fleshtearer mini, painted, in AoD. And to me it looks like the red used is a little darker than the other Blood Reds shown. And have not been able to locate more information of colour in the codex regarding Tearers. But otherwise it's nice to have if You should come over one, as it is the last real Angels Dex IMHO.. 13 years and counting.

Yeah Katie, that is definitely a Mecharite red basecoat, possibly with either a black wash or with a spot of black mixed into the basecoat. However, I am going to disagree with the others above on the highlights as I am almost positive that the main colour is a mix of mecharite with red gore, then a red gore highlight. Possibly a touch of blood red added to that for an edge highlight.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?
