I'll be honest, waaay way back in the day I had a thing for the deathwatch. As a xeno player, they just seemed the perfect nemesis for my tyranids and necrons alike, so when some old old issue of White Dwarf (somewhere back in 2007 or something) came out with rules for fielding Deathwatch Kill teams, I was pretty stoked. Naturally it was not easy to amass the parts I needed to convert the bastards, but I managed and cobbled together a squad of ten marines with a captain.
In the years since then, that squad has succumbed to a few of them getting lost, two broken and the rest were tossed in disgust at how horrible my converting and painting skills were at the time.
Imagine how stoked I am now, with an actual codex and kits to play with!
However, as with most things gw these days, the price has hit me. So I devised a most elegant solution. Using some of the spare bits from my brother's purchase of Death Masque (sucker) and my own purchase of a deathwatch captain, I had enough parts to finish a ten man squad by purchasing a tactical squad rather than the actual deathwatch squad kit.
Sure they're basic, but these are the troops anyway! I'll splurge a little more once I get to the important guys. Once I get a hold of a deathwatch terminator squad, there will be even more penny pinching opportunity with a full ten spare deathwatch shoulder guards.
There's not much to show at the moment, but it's a solid start.
I plan to exploit this edition to the fullest (theme wise) by making a full blown Inquisitorial force, with primary detachment of Deathwatch Kill Teams and tacked on Stormtrooper and Inquisition detachments. It's something I've wanted for a long time and it's gonna be sweet.
