Default Tomb Kings Zombies/Ghouls?

Hi there heretics,

I am currently working on an undead legions army, but it is predominantly Tomb Kings based and entirely themed around Queen Khalida's Legion of Lybaras which she musters to expel Neferata from ruined Lahmia.

I played my first game yesterday, and it was a lot of fun. Only 1000pts, but gave me a feel for the army (the result was a draw if you are interested). However one thing I noticed that really feels weak to me is The Lore of Nehekhara. Therefore I am considering making use of the fact I was one of the lucky few to get the hardback Nagash book and switch the Lore of Undeath.

Indeed, summoning units from the sands seems very cool and provides an interesting dynamic, but this presents an issue. I would want to be summoning Zombies if I needed a tarpit, and potentially ghouls too. How would you guys go about modelling some Nehekharan equivalents?

I have had a few ideas for the ghouls, as the standard models are shrivelled and made me think of primitive mummification, when bodies were effectively petrified in a mix of ash and tar. So using the normal ghoul bodies and arms painted ash black and horrible, maybe with death masks?

I am truly stumped as far as zombies go though. Nehekharans were very stringent about preserving and revering the dead, so standard zombies don't make much sense. Also bear in mind that the conversions can't be too intense as I will need a lot of them!

Any further ideas for summoned unit conversions appreciated!

Cheers

Mummies used to be a thing - but mummification was expensive, and intended to be mummified by being buring in sand - a la Tomb Guard.

Ghouls are easy - Ghouls are scavengers - and were little more than simply the insane grave robbing dead-body-botherers who tagged along with vampires - although the Strigoi had a particular kinship with them. Suntouched Numasi (a human city state famed for its horsemen and trading), stricken by the Tomb King's curse on buried treasure, or an Arabyan Bedu tribe or Malaluk (Mamluk equivalent in Fantasy - captured slave forced to fight for the Arabyans) similarly cursed. For models, I'm not sure, but baggy trousers, painted with leather-like skin, in dark skin tones might be appropriate for those.

Zombies, I'm unsure of - maybe the literally freshly killed Ghouls of your army?

You could try and replace the weapons with some of the tomb kinsg ones? Or maybe model them with TK shields? If you haave a lihce preist I would try and paint it similar to that so they tie into the whole dead dry flesh thing.

Alternatively build a load of skeleton warriors without shields and if possible no weapons either and use them as zombies? So it is like the wizard has just rasied anything nearby rather than military?

Me: To be honest im amazed there isn't a chaos god of not revising or at least chaos god of procrastination

MidnightSun: There will be, when enough people do it. Y'know when the Eldar were all engaging in their hedonism and Slaanesh ripped open the Eye of Terror with his creation? Slaanesh will have NOTHING on the God of Procrastination, and his vile minions will carve the galaxy asunder in a thousand year reign of blood.... Tomorrow

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I need to brush up on my Time of Legends stuff for sure.

Tomb robber crypt ghouls shouldn't be too difficult. The ghoul body and torsos are fine, maybe with some high elf legs or something to theme them slightly.

An idea that just came to me for zombies... What about living slaves? Generic bedraggled humans, maybe flagellants, and the back rank of the unit as skeletons with whips? Sounds fun.

Personally I feel like your zombies could be a mix of troops add your raising zombies from your freshly killed enemies. That makes for an interesting and fun unit to play. And depending on the size you would only need about 3/4 models from each army which you should be able to find. Or choose the opponent you play against the most and use his trips as zombies.
