Default New Obliterator Models- quite a joke?

Sorry if there's already an article about that, but i always wondered about GW creating new models that simply don't fit to their ruleset.

Their newest "mistake": The Obliterator model from the new Codex Chaos:

The model wears the following things:
-melta [y, in the rules its twinl.]
-flamethrower[y]
-bolter [n]
-ASSAULT CANNON [definitely no!]
- half of a lascannon [y]
- Chainsword/Chainfist [n]

The "new" Oblits do not have any ballistic weapons, they just got energy/fuel - based weapons.
The h-Bolters are gone, the machinecannon is gone, the fragmentation-rocket is gone. There never was an ass(ault)-Cannon either..

If that's a game with wysiwyg, why does GW ignore their own rules?

I would like to see some conversions fitting the right armament...

I just posted mine about a month ago

Thanks to some friendly suggestions, all weapons are energy based.

I have been tossing around the idea of making a couple from some terminators I have lying around actually.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Well if you read the fluff they say that obliterators can change their weapons at will and if they can “grow” any weapon at any time why is there a need to put every weapon on the mini? On top of that I don’t think anyone will ever give you any problems with your obliterator not being wysiwyg and if they do there a moron IMO.

There IS no new model for the new codex. The last obliterator models that were released came out with the 4th Edition Codex in 2002. You know, when Obliterators didn't suck, and they could have ballistic weapons... and Games Workshop didn't listen to people whining about things that were fluffy but weren't necessarily game balanced, like Obliterators being a flat T5 in the first printing... or daemon weapons and Gifts of the Gods not counting against the Daemonic Gifts limit, but the Wargear limit... oh, and the Codex wasn't utterly retarded both fluff and rules-wise... *sigh* those were the days... My Black Legionnaires lament the new rules, indeed, for they live in a drawer now, and my username is now completely inappropriate given I haven't played Chaos since the new Codex came out. /rant

Back on topic, though, the current obliterator models were excellent when they were released, and they're still excellent models, although they're not as impressive next to the most recent Chaos Space Marine models as they were in 2003.
