Default Necron Advice?

I'm new to the game, I don't have an army yet but im wanting to get Necron, and most of the Necron armies ive seen are black or metal etc. well my thinking of something like tan or white, so my question is would it be best to just use the paint like Bone or would Citidel Sand/Snow work on the units?

I suggest you try out potential color schemes on a few warriors. That way, you can pick the "look" you like best before commiting to do it for the WHOLE army.

But "bone"-looking Necrons could be cool- Perhaps thay have Ivory coating their metal skeletons?

I prefer non-traditional(non-metal) Necrons. There are afew examples in the codex and on GWs website. But for quick reference, I have the two styles I was considering here. They are stone-style Necrons and I prefer the lighter but could give you ideas. And here is another image. These are ceramic based it appears. The eyes are quite menacing.

Ceramic based Necrons can look very cool if you take your time with them, there are a lot of good examples of them on the forum and you can find them easily enough through some google searches, one of the best examples I've seen of white ceramic Necrons was in the old codex where I think they contrasted the white of the bodies with either very heavily washed boltgun for the joints etc. or it was straight black for the joints, but it looked very effective

If you do white you could give the models black joints and make "Star Wars" stormtrooper style models! I did some Space Wolf grey models for a 4th Ed kill team and they turned out pretty well. I'll have to get the pics when I'm back home.

I would reconsider a metal finish. Non-metallic Necrons just look wierd.

as I said in the linked post i prefer non-metallic and would have gone for it had I had the skill to, as long as it is neat then it will look good, i definately would not use sand or snow on it unless u are putting on clumps of dirt to make it look like it just came out of the ground.

Me: To be honest im amazed there isn't a chaos god of not revising or at least chaos god of procrastination

MidnightSun: There will be, when enough people do it. Y'know when the Eldar were all engaging in their hedonism and Slaanesh ripped open the Eye of Terror with his creation? Slaanesh will have NOTHING on the God of Procrastination, and his vile minions will carve the galaxy asunder in a thousand year reign of blood.... Tomorrow

Im painting some with a brown/tan mix I like them and it works out alright. Might not be flashy but you can make it work. Second the notion to test paint a few and see what catches your eye.
