NOt a bad job on the painting. You just need to get some definition on them and some shading and they will really start to stand out. Some of your paint seems a little thick so try thinner layers especially on the white to me looks really thick.

Good job can't wait to see more.

It's not often that I see the Fire Hawks. Nice.

I agree with morfangdakka, thin your paints down (advice I've been given quite a few times).

Shrink down the Chapter icon, it looks like the fire hawk's feet and tail for a couple of them has bled through onto the pauldron's rim. There are websites that you can get decals to print out onto transfer sheets if you don't want to freehand all those icons.

And flock your bases (again, advice I've been given). The minis really do look a lot better with flock.

You know, I normally don't go for this kind of color scheme-- something very "Rogue Trader-era-y." But when it's applied to old models, it somehow just feels right. And these look pretty cool, as a result. Keep it up!

thanks for the comments guys. I have thinned my paints down a touch but as im sure most of you would appreciate that yellow is a bitch of a colour to get good coverance and as such most of my minis have taken perhaps 3-4 coats to get it even. I havent based them yet, most of them arent even glued to the bases yet as I wanted to be sure I was gonna stay firehawks before I based them properly. The photos dont really show my highlighting which I have done in bleached bone. To build up the yellow i:-
base coated with iyanden darksun
painted all armour with a 70-30 mix of sunburst yellow & iyanden darksun
washed them with either gryphonne sepia or devlan mud (been trying both to see which gives the best definition)
gave them a second coat of my yellow mix all over bar the recesses
highlighted with bleached bone
some of them I gave a yellow wash all over
then a final highlight with bleached bone on the very extremes of the armour plates

Ive added the pics here of my firehawk commander which I finished yesterday, but I think Im gonna re-paint the electricity on the power sword once I get a bit better with a brush!!
