Default ThunderWolves - I'd like some tips and your thoughs.

Hi Guys.

I've finally greens stuffed my wolves from hell (nurgel hell) and am about to paint them.

My though is paint one of the wolves (the leader) black.
Now... black is not one of my best colors, and making a black fur is even still much more difficult I imagine.

So... I' like your thoughts of the matter.

1. Black base coat, highlight with some dark dark gray and finally grey as final highlight.

or...

2. Base with Dark grey and drybrush with black and finally highlight with gray again.

Good?? Bad??? Or how would you do it?

Things I'd like to do better (in no special order):
- Glowing eyes... how cool isn't that?
- Urban basing... There are so many ways to do this cool.
- Freehand texting... It can always get smaller...

Personally I've basecoated a dark grey, washed heavily with badab black, with a light dry brush of the grey. I also dry brushed a lighter grey around the paws, on the face and on the tail. It helps give a graduated look to the colour. I'll see if I have any pictures...

I would actually go in the other direction. I would make the pack leader a light shade of grey to make him look older and meaner. I would expect the young pups to have the darker fur.
At the very least drybrush him with a bright grey on his back and head to make him look older.

Okay, for black fur, make up a mix of 3:3:1 Chaos black, scorched brown and codex grey, this makes it less artificial and more natural looking, then layer up mixes of Codex grey and scorched brown up to pure codex grey.

Thanx guys.

I ended up with the following painting scheme. (The tail as experiment)

1. Black coat
2. Devlin Wash
3. 1:1 Black - Dark grey - Painting each strand of the fur.
4. Fenris Grey on the furs
5. 1:1 Fenris Grey - Skull White at the top of each strand.

I guess I can remove the wash and add some brown to the mix of black (thanx for that tip)

Also I added some dark gray and fenris gray to the skin where there are no fur.
