You should really write your own list for us to critique. If we just write you a list a) that'd be netlisting, which is oft frowned upon, and frankly is quite lazy, and b) you won't learn why the units we've told you to use are good, you'll simply go into your games with no idea of how each unit works, get roflstomped by an even remotely competant opponent, and then wonder why the list of mystery doesn't work. Also, when you move on to other armies, you'll have no idea how to build them either, so you might as well learn the first time around

Do you have the book yet? If not, then get that. I just made a quick check on the GW site, two battalions should yield a decent 1000pt army once you add a character (and a bunch of leftover Saurus Cavalry you can use for...bound Cold One units?).

2 Battalions and a Slann (maybe the model will be out by september, but I'm not holding my breath). Blocks of Saurus are good. Skink skirmishers are good. Slann make Temple Guard good. Many are opposed to cold one cavalry, but I've heard rumor of them having a use.

RIP CSM Jan/2012.
See you next codex

Scar Veteran, Great Weapon, Light armour and Shield

Skink Priest

20 Saurus Warriors

10 Skink Skirmishers

I think thats pretty much all that you can fit in 500 points, if you want more advise check out Lustria Online (can't post link for obvious reasons)

As I can see that you're very receptive of the advice given to you, I'll keep this brief so as not to waste too much of my time:

Always take a Slaan if you are able;
Scar Vet on Cold One one with Burning Blade and Dawnstone is a good monster killer;
Saurus blocks are slow but pretty strong;
Skrox are faster but more fragile;
Skirmishers are a pain for your opponent;
Temple Guard are Saurus on steroids;
Chameleons are good for harassing, but annoyingly expensive;
Salamanders are utter beasts;
Stegadons are too fragile;
Razordons suck.

That's the Lizardman book for you in a nutshell, if it's not mentioned it's because I don't feel it deserves one, though that is a judgement you ought to make on your own. Generally, it's a pretty tough book, but you'll have issues with being hard hitting. Too many of the Lizards' best units have really low initaitive.

with a 500-750 point budget, there's no way he can get a slann is since they're 275 with no upgrades. for heros, you're looking at saurus oldblood or scar veteran or a skink priest or chief. if you want magic, then frankly you're gonna need the priest, although that said, i haven't used mine in a game yet. don't even have the right sized base for him or my chief yet lol

as far as core goes, you want sizable blocks of saurus, i've mixed mine up by having one unit with spears and one with hand weapons, though so far neither's made too much of a difference to me lol

You've been told multiple times in this thread what units are usually found in a good Lizardmen list; if you want our help you have to put in some effort. Read the advice being given to you, write your own list and we'll critique it. We're not just going to serve you a netlist on a silver platter.
