Default 1000 point Lizardmen just starting out

I've always wanted to try my hand at warhammer and as i have some Saurus units at hand ive brought the new army book.

HEROES

Hero 1: (Saurus Scar-Vet.): (160)
- (Cold one mount)
- (Shield of the Mirrored Pool)
- (Burning Blade of Chotec )
- (light armour )

Hero 2: (Skink Priest): (140)
- (LVL 2 wizard)
- (Bane Head )
- (Dispel scroll)

CORE

Core 1: (20 Saurus Warriors): (258)
- (Spears)
- (Banner)

Core 2: (10 Skink Skirmishers): (70)

Core 3: (10 Skink Skirmishers): (70)

SPECIAL

Special 1: (6 Cold One Cavalry): (258)
- (Banner)

RARE

Rare 1: (1 Salamander): (75)

Army Total: (1003)

the way im thinking of running it is having the saurus up the centre flanked by the skinks, the priest running with the saurus or with the other skinks, and the scar-vet has the option to run with the saurus or the cavelry.

That list sounds good to me but from personal experoence i find the points u spend on the cold ones are alot better spent on more saurus

I agree in a small army force like this one. Or in this case maybe a Stegadon or Ancient Stegadon. And while I think Salamanders are good, I think Razordons are more bang for your points cost. I like the look of this list though, pretty balanced for a small point game.

As I tend to bring up though, the Burning Blade of Chotec, while cool and incredible against heavy armor, you could downgrade it for a normal Sword of Might, still retaining the ability to knock down an AS, but making it easier to wound.

Also, Bane head on the mage? That item should only every really go to character hunters. I'd say ditch it and work with the points elsewhere.

this list looks decent for a 1000 point game, as long as you try to use the skirmishers as bait to set up flank charges from the overrun. I also agree with cougar, and with those downgrades, you could give the priest a Plaque of Tepoc, or a Diadem of Power and still be around 1000.
