Default 1750 Mobile Imperial Guard

Hello,

I am trying to do as much research as I can before investing in a new IG army, and so far the list seems pretty solid, but I don't want solid, I want awesome
So here is the list:

HQ 240 pts

CCS 95 pts (in Vendetta)
4x Meltagun
Melta Bombs

CCS 90 pts (in Chimera)
4x Meltagun
Chimera 55
Heavy flamer
Multi Laser

Troops 600 pts

Veteran Squad 130 pts (in Vendetta)
3x Meltagun
Demolitions

Veteran Squad 130 pts (in Vendetta)
3x Meltagun
Demolitions

Veteran Squad 115 pts (in Chimera)
3x Plasma Gun
Chimera 55
Heavy flamer
Multi Laser

Veteran Squad 115 pts (in Chimera)
3x Plasma Gun
Chimera 55
Heavy flamer
Multi Laser

Fast Attack 390 pts

Vendetta 130 pts

Vendetta 130 pts

Vendetta 130 pts

Heavy Support 520 pts

LRBT 165 pts
Lascannon

LRBT 165 pts
Lascannon

LR Executioner 190 pts

TOTAL: 1750

EDIT: Changed Chimeras to Heavy Flamer + Multilaser.

The idea is to have the Vendettas and their squad as forward tank hunters, while Chimera squads clear up any Anti Armour threats. At the heart of this whole formation is three Leman Russes just laying down pain.

Your criticism is very appreciated, and there is absolutely no need to be gentle.

Thanks.

P.S. any clue what to do with those 5 remaining points? Edit: Added Melta bombs for CCS in Vendetta

Hi Hamooding,

That is a great list to start off with Guard and packing a hefty punch.

The only thing I would really recommend is swapping out the dual heavy flamer chimeras for multilaser & heavy flamer - the S6 multilaser is an incredibly handy weapon to have en mass.
The problem with having two heavy flamers is that you'll very rarely get to fire both as you're sure to be moving about to get the vets inside to where they need to be and nobody is crazy enough to put a squad infront of one of those tanks.
Multilasers can be fired at range at important targets like transports, fast speeders and monstrous creatures whilst you keep mobile.

For the last 5 points... meltabomb for an officer?

I was really turned off by the Multilaser's AP 6, but after taking a closer look, 3 str 6 hits are not bad at all. Added to the list. I also added a Melta bomb to on of the CCS.

Thanks for the good advice, I really appreciate it

No problem.

The AP of a weapon isn't as much of a factor now in 5th edition with the abundance of cover saves as it used to be. Now it's more beneficial to put a lot of wounds on a unit to force saves (hopefully the meltagunner will fail one!) and the multilaser does just that - 2+ to wound against most infantry.

The S6 is also fantastic for helping to knock out transports, which should always be your primary target - if those assault troops have to walk across the board then you'll have a much easier time of thinning them down or destroying them before they get to your squishy men and tanks.

Good list (although I've moved on from all-Vets)...bearing in mind the good advice
bishop5 gave is heeded, mainly on the Chimera build.

Just watch those Vets/Vendettas...usually the Vendetta is lost while doing it's 'transport' thing - putting it in range of the majority of the enemy's guns early game paints a big fat bulls-eye on it. Hopefully the payoff is worth it.

Great to see some Plasma in there also.

Best of luck
