Default Legion of the Damned

The Legion of the Damned are an Elites choice in Codex: Space Marines, Codex: Dark Angels, and Codex: Blood Angels.

Legion of the Damned: 300pts
Unit Size - 9 Damned Legionaries and 1 Damned Centurion
Unit Type - Infantry - Unique

WS: 5
BS: 5
S: 5
T: 5
W: 1
I: 5
A: 2
Ld: 10
Sv: 3+

The Damned Centurion has 3 attacks on his profile.

Wargear:
The Legion of the Damned are armed with Boltguns, Bolt Pistols, Frag Grenades and Krak Grenades. The Damned Centurion has a Close Combat weapon in addition to his other wargear.

Special Rules:
Daemon, Zealot, Adamantium Will, Feel No Pain

Unyielding Spectres:
The Legion of the Damned are not deployed as a unit. Instead, all models in your army with the Psyker rule gain the Legion of the Damned psychic power. This is a Conjuration power costing 1 Warp Charge that summons the Legion of the Damned. Once the Legion have been summoned successfully, the power may not be used again for the length of the game. All weapons used by the Legion of the Damned have the Ignores Cover and Soul Blaze special rules.

Aid Unlooked For:
If you have no Psykers in your army or they are removed as a casualty, you may instead deploy the Legion via the Aid Unlooked For special rule. If any squad except Servitors in your army falls under 25% of their original size, you may immediately place the Legion of the Damned in a valid Deep Strike formation anywhere within 6" of the squad. They will not scatter.

Damned Souls:
The Legion of the Damned may not claim the Victory Points from the First Blood, Slay the Warlord or Linebreaker secondary objectives, nor may they be joined by any character. The Legion of the Damned are neither a Scoring or Denial unit.

Options:
Up to two Legionaries may replace their Boltguns with Flamers for 5pts each or Meltaguns for 10pts each. The Damned Centurion may replace his Bolt Pistol with a Plasma Pistol for 10pts, and his Close Combat Weapon for a Power Weapon for 10pts or a Power Fist for 20pts.

Comments? I think they're pretty good, but perhaps need the Damned Souls rule toning down a little. Perhaps either not counting as a denial unit or -1 victory points, not both.

I definitely like it. I have been looking at getting my hands on those awesome LotD models for years, and these rules would actually breathe new life/viability into them a a bit.

Without the damned souls rule they are probably too good. Seems pretty flavorful and good.

My tactics articles, if you need help making a new army, or beating one:

I have a new theory in life - for everything - from ethics to legal cases - it is called pre-emptive self defense.

Toned down Damned Souls without complete removal. Do you think they should be able to have Heavy Weapons? I never imagined them as static enough to use Heavy Weapons, but perhaps Flamers could be replaced with Heavy Flamers for a further cost?

Don't legion of the damned already have an entry in the vanilla space marine codex? Or are you just changing their rules to something more exiting?

In terms of the unit, I think it will be waving a red flag in front of a bull, with that stat line I'd be gunning that down first turn I can. even with feel no pain i can see these guys being summoned in, chopping up a unit in cc then being blasted to pieces as soon as that finishes.

current win rates;
csm 3/1/1
daemons 1/0/0

They do indeed, but they're never seen for a reason. Not only do they cost a first-born soul to purchase, they're awful in game.

Sure, the Legion are a huge target, but that's part of their usage - they help out your battered units and buy them time to flee. You either kill the two or three Marines running away to capture an objective and take a mauling from the Legion, or you kill the Legion while the Marines make their escape. It takes a lot of dakka to down 10 T5 bodies with 3+ armour, 5+ invulns and FnP. Their offensive capacity is rather substantial too, making them do more than merely chop up 'a unit' in CC before death.

Being released tomorrow. The squad sergeant is potentially the coolest Chaplain model I have ever seen from GW.

Unfortunately Canada got rid of the penny and now my two cents rounds down to zero, so...take it for what you will.

Price: 104.50

It's 17 dudes. They're over 5 per model. Oh dear.

On the topic of the Homebrew, do you think there ought to be a clause under Aid Unlooked For or for the psychic power Legion of the Damned that bypasses Runes of Warding etc.?
