Default My First Ever Complete Paint Job

Well I'm well and truly hooked on painting now. I think I've finally settled on a color theme for my orks after a few failures and half starts. Perseverance got me through this but I'm happy with the results.

I can see a few mistakes I've made and any tips you pros can give me - simple things you can see ive done wrong please please please tell me right away.

Moving forward I need to do a third layer of warboss green, less depth to the skin shadows, change that god awful yellow to something else, less shade on the pants (I had to paint over some of it as it went a bit shiny) and I think I need to go a little darker on the shirt. My fine lines need tidying up a little and I also need to drill out the barrel of the weapon. Of course I could do this in bulk later on a bit.

Looking good Jez Very solid paint job, especially for Orks, who people usually give very little love to. If I had to nit pick it would be about some of the skin looking too dark in the muscles.

Thanks That's precisely what I was thinking. The camera makes it look worse than it is but you're absolutely right.

Long way to go before I hit the inspiration level.

The other thing I would suggest is adding a bit of rust to the weapons, since orks aren't exactly known for regular weapon maintenance ;P

1 down, 100 or so to go... Looks good, Like Tym said some rusting/weathering on the metal and maybe some mud/weathering on the boots will tie it together nicely.

Mould lines. Couple on the hands and weapons. Water down the wash on the shallow recesses on the pants. May have to use 2 layers but will look smoother. One side of the axe looks a lot shinier then the other side. The metallics are a little rough on the gun.

All and all damn good job man for a first minis. There are a couple things that will get neater and easier about Ork 502. Then you will want to repaint all the for 100 again :-).

Yep I went at them and removed a lot but missed more. The ones on the hands are pretty hard to get shot of between the fingers anyway.

Yeah the metallics all round are pretty shit.

Do you have a method for painting them you can share?

I normally paint it a solid silver and use heavy washes to dirty it up or use a sponge to add some rustiness to it.
