With the leftover detritus from the Obelisk kit and the spare scarabs, I was able to make enough scarab swarms for a decent unit. Eight bases total that I had lying around from... something.
That is more help towards my anti vehicle capability without draining points. Meanwhile, I stumbled across a problem:
As you can see, I have a monolith model. I am however, unaware as to what happened to the green portal and crystal. The large green rods on the side are also missing, but I have plastic rod I can replace it with since it will all be painted anyway. The crystal and portal however would prove tricky to replace until I made a discovery:
While destroying an old sm rhino it occurred to me that this could work, and huzzah for it did! The rhino top hatch doors are a perfect fit, as if they were designed for this very purpose. ( )
So that's half my monolith issues resolved, but does anyone have any ideas for what I can use in lieu of the crystal?
Was just thinking, If you've got some waste sprues left, maybe you could trim some down and attempt to craft something that looks like a prison/crystal? Get some green plastic sheets from somewhere, stick them inside the sprue frame.. voila, Terasect prison.
And they do look pretty cool. Shame I've not got a camera right now or I'd be taking pics. Mostly used the wraith heads simply as they were the most scarab looking spare bits I had.
How about hitting the local "all for a dollar"-type places and looking for a suitable doodad to fit in there? What to look for: Beads, toys (some might even light up), jewelry supplies...

Lump of modelling clay + 20 minutes sculpting + curing time = one crystal. Plasticard or something similar would work as well, you could even likely just look up a cut out diagram for a prism shape and size it to the right proportions before printing it off, cutting it out and sketching it onto the card stock you want to use.
I have a busted up Monolith as well that I have to do the same thing for, that idea with the Rhino doors is amazing. Little bit of smoothing that down then sculpting some warp door on there and bam.
Unfortunately Canada got rid of the penny and now my two cents rounds down to zero, so...take it for what you will.
