I like #7, but then I err on the side of fun.

Number 2 seems fairly strong. Out of curiosity, are you find Grey Knights to be more effective as a short range shooting army?

With only playtesting with stand in models I find that they have the ability to adapt to most tactical situations.

Against most Space marine players for example I can out shooting and stay out of rapid fire range, If they move forward, I can move back, they lose their chance to shoot and I can keep the rounds coming.

I feel like orks really got the short end of the stick. They get shot up twice as much(than vs normal marines) and when they get close, they get shot up again and charged!. Not only that but most ork players I know love their saves that they get in close combat... well not vs Knights.

My real fear is a IG mech gunline. That is why I have so many interceptors in my lists. They may be expensive but you can shunt into cover with out taking dangerous terrain tests and fire on the side armor of those pesky tanks as soon as turn 1 if your lucky. Also their ability to move 12" normally lets you get your hammers a good workout the turn after your shunt

So they can move 12" ? i thought they only could make that big move once and then move like normal infantry.

I see in a few of your list you mention getting to your opponent in turn 1, Im assuming you know that you cant shunt in your scout move.

I like the first list with the exception of the dreadnought. The paladins list is also fun, but try and get a librarian or inquisitor with grenades in there.

Hail,

Grey Knights are definitely a short range shooty army. Storm bolters w/psybolt ammo means s5 30"(assault weapon) as the basic weapon of most units on the list. All 3 of the special weapons(Psycannon, Psilencer, Incinerator) are all short ranged and assault type as well.
Example: 10 man GKSS w/2 psycannon and psybolt ammo 240 points, vs 30 ork boyz,w 3 big shootas with nob and powerklaw about 235 points, it would be better to shoot the orks up for 2 rounds before assaulting or even better shoot em down completely. One round of shooting followed by an assault would leave a good chance for the ork numbers to win, whereas 2 or more rounds of shooting will allow a dominant position for an assault or elimination in a hail of bolt and psybolt rounds. 24"-30" range is the key of Grey Knights shooty strategy. It is also the weakness. The Grand Strategy ability of 'Spear of light' is a great way to set up a few units in that 24" killzone. If you are still not sure, look at how many units can DS, no assault on the turn you arrive but, shooting is still valid.
