Default Do You Believe in Luck on the Tabletop?

Hey everyone.

This is a discussion to see how you all play 40k.

1. Do you believe in the existence of 'luck' or do you rely on cold hard statistics to determine whether or not you should make specific tabletop moves?

2. Do you have any weird quirks or 'lucky' rituals that you perform or taboos that you absolutely will not break?

I actually am of two minds about this topic. A part of me always wants to believe in statistics as that is scientifically accurate, but when have you ever seen statistics actually come true?

I mean, how many times have you rolled either amazingly well to the point were you can't fail, or the complete opposite were you lose 5 Terminators to 5 shots or hits in CC?

Rarely IMO do statistics ever come true, but at the same time, I am loath to throw away units that should theoretically do poorly against an opposing unit, rather I like to keep them alive for a later use.

Anyway, do you guys believe in 'luck' or have any kind of 'lucky' rituals.

Meh, I play it as it comes. I rarely have time to sit around and works out the odds of a potential assault or round of shooting. Saying that, when building lists I will refer to good old mathhammer, but when it comes to actual gaming, logic goes out the window, and I hit what I can see... lol

"Luck? In my experience, there's no such thing as luck."

A virtual cookie to anyone who guesses the quote. Shouldn't be too hard.

I am akin to you on this one DAC, my moves are determined by logic, but whenever I roll for my scatter dye, I have 2 I tend to roll before the actual roll and take whichever gets a 'hit' as it brings my roll luck, and i rarely miss what im actually aiming for when i do that, IE even if i scatter i tend to scatter in a good way

I think it is all BS. When I lose (About half of the time) it is mostly to do with something like a bad tactical error I have made rather than plain bad dice. Like having a poor sense of target priority.

As for lucky rituals I do nothing and I make my moves to allow my units to fight what I think they will be able to kill.

I have recently started a new Blog. I would really appreciate it if you would LOOK AT IT

No such thing. Logic and tactical prowess is all that guides me, gaming or otherwise.

I'm not superstitious. But I do see "luck" playing a part.

Example: Thunderwolf Lord and remaining SGT, both with PW/Storm Shields charging a lone Vindicare Assassin with one wound remaining. Statistics say just remove the figure from the board, as by Mathhammer, he's dead meat. Now, on the tabletop, the Vindicare was only wounded four times, and made all four 4+ invuls, did one wound, and the TWC broke. Mathhammer says this doesn't happen. Luckily, it did for me. And that lone vindicare with one wound escorted them off the table. Again, Mathhammer says TWC easily outdistance a Vindicare on foot to autorally. Dice luck gave me perfect fleet rolls to keep me within 6". So does luck happen? Yes. Do you call on the Patrons of Chance for your dice? Nah.
