Default Considering Moving over to blood angels

I've had this thought in my head ever since the blood angels' codex was released. From what i've seen, there isn't many reasons to stay Vanilla (for which i'll explain in a bit). What has mainly got my thinking about this is the fact that Assault marines are troops, To which are my second most favorite mininture in the whole 40K game.

They also benefit from some nifty special rules and have some more Rather brilliant models (Stormraven not inculded). From what i see, i might as well go over to Blood angels as i don't particually like any of the special characters in the vanilla codex and the units that the blood angels codex doesn't have aren't that good. However, I don't what to spend 18 for a book which i'll just leave in a couple of months.

So i'm here, Asking opinions and advice from Blood angel and Vanilla players alike.

If you're running Biker Lists, static gunlines or Vulkan, then Vanilla is better. Anything else, there's not realyl a reason to not go for BA or SW.

By simply reading the new BA dex I am extremely impressed with it. It really has a lot of different units and cool wargear that the standard c:sm book can't even compare to. From the dreadnoughts to the stormraven, (not so much the model itself but the rules for it at least) to the sanguinary guard to the special characters the codex is ripe with cool stuff.
I was very tempted to start a BA army but the only thing that kept me from doing so was the fact that I didn't want to paint another power armored army at this time. But that has nothing to do with how fun the army looks to be from just reading the book a few times.

once agian the Nilla codex gets the shaft. As a player who plays noth Nilla (imperial fists) and Blood Angels (Angels Encarmine) i have to admit that i enjoy my BA army but my Nilla one is way better. Combined with the fact that i own a total of 27 modals in Termiantor Armour for my Imperial Fists (10 Assault, 15 normal, a Libby and Lysander him self). The BA armys can be fun i feel but i just prefure the nilla codex. But that is just me i think.
*BTW my Angels Encarmine list is mostly mech unlike my Imperial fist list and they have a much lower win ratio.*

I'm using the BA codex to represent my Raven Guard for two simple reasons:

- Assault Marines as troops, which fits Raven Guard perfectly

- Devastator squads that are actually playable

Provided you steer clear of BA specific things like special characters and Death Company, you can use their codex to represent anyone.

Edit: Post 2222! Hurrah.

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.

Traditionally i play Vanilla marines. But the BA codex can be used to make a FleshTearers army. FleshTearers get Gabriel Seth, a brutal, uncompromising animal that headbutts nancies in close combat. Add Death Company, jump-packing dreadnoughts, and fast predators with flamestorm cannons, and you have a cavalcade of insanity thats also not bad on the field :D And don't get me started on Sanguinary Guard, they look like Goldfingers elite guard that were fired for not wearing shirts...

Can't blame the OP for switching over. As you said assault marines are troop choices. If the SM codex had the chapter trait "take the fight to them" like its previous version then I wouldnt mind staying nilla :D .... then again the BA ones have apothecaries (sang priests), preds that can move then shoot, and dakka preds (baal pred) for fast attack

I don't know... even here SW's can create a pretty static shooty list if so inclined. Three long fangs + razorback spam, etc. They could just sit in their deployment zone and blaze away.

As for me, I wont be giving in to the red thirst, but mainly for financial reasons. If you're a space marine player and you want to assault the enemy, I can't think of any cooler army to do it with. So many new toys, and even though the Stormraven is an ugly model, it would be tempting.

Excellent firepower, decently armored, fast skimmer, that can transport a full squad AND a dreadnought into close combat where upon they can assault the turn they disembark. What's not to like about that (aside from having to purchase one or more ugly expensive models)?

Good idea. I've often thought about doing something like this. One it allows you to play the with the cool toys of that codex without needing to purchase all new models. This seems like a good balance to me, and isn't much different than taking Vulkan or Pedro, etc. for a vanilla marine army other than Salamanders and Crimson Fists and saying he "counts as" your chapter's special character ________________ (insert appropriate name).

I would say that BA (and Space Wolves!) have alot more character than vanilla marines and outclass the basic vanilla's. There's plenty of special rules, cool sc's and new toys that the vanilla's all miss out on. If you can afford to switch to BA then I say go for it.

If you like fast striking close combat, then BA are for you.

If you are more into your Dakka, SW are a good choice.

Both have nice characterful minis also.
