3 player game questionhey

Hey guys, me and a couple of mates have regular games of 40k but the problem is that in a 3 player game is that two players spend most of it fighting leaving the other to pick up the peices.

We recently tired playing kill points and that worked better but any suggestions are welcome.
Also deployment is a bit of an issue We play on a four sided rectangular table and two players always end up close with another player further away.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have the BIG rulebook or the small one?

Only asking because the BRB has a couple of extra missions in the back half of the book (like Broken alliance, which is a 3 player game with deployment zones and all).

Hey! Where'd ... Everybody ... go?

We've found two players deploying in a corner straight down the table from each other and the last in the middle of the table on the opposite side works fairly well. The middle player can be hosed depending on movement but at least no one is too much closer to one another.

Start the game like a DoW mission, we have found that works really well and keeps from having to much going on at the start of the game.

How ironic it is that as fast as we spread progress and hope throughout the galaxy, the Tyranids spread death and despair. Only united can we hope to stand against them.

Hey StalkerZero do you play on a rectangular or square table? I ask because I'm in a group of 3 friends and we like to play 3 player games in this very same deployment though we use a square table and I was wondering if it works on a rectangular table?

Best 3 player game I've had though was with one player playing demons. Two non-demon sides set up in normal pitched battle deployment and demons just deepstriked down with no table edge! Worked very well (except they ended up ganging up on my poor guardsmen ) though problem is you need to have one player playing an all deep strike army (Demons, drop pod marines etc).

Rectangular.

Three player games can be a blast or a supreme drag for the reasons you listed. Sometimes that third player just gets to sit there and can win easily by mopping up what's left on turn 5-7.

three people games can be fun, we ran a lot of them and found the best way to do it was kill points with the deployments being done in quarters.

Can re-roll re-rolls

i refuse to play 3 player games for just that reason. Instead i will play doubles or have 2 armys team up against another. It's allot easir

We actually do alot of 3-player games, as we usually only HAVE three players...lol. Most often, we do as StalkerZero suggests- a triangular deployment scheme so that, in theory, everybody is a certain distance apart.

And there are quite a few good 3-player scenarios online to be found- Google is your friend. Gw even had a rather good one called "Battle at the Camp", where 3 HQ choices from rival armies are meeting at the middle of the board while their armies "rest" a good distance behind them in a "camp". Of course, the meeting goes bad and the three leaders try to kill each other or return to their "camps". I recall points were given for killing enemy HQ with your HQ, and for getting units into enemy camps...
