Default How To Make The Game Fun For The XBox / WoW Generation

My brother tried to get his son into 40k once. He turned up at the club, moaned a bit, sulked a bit, picked up a few models then sat twiddling his thumbs waiting to go home.

Then he went and sat on Warcraft for the rest of the night.

So, what tips would you give to someone like him who wants to make the game seem more appealing?

Is there a way, or is it just a case of some people love it, some don't?

Pretty much a case of some people love it, some people don't.

Its the same as theres people who love WoW and hate WoW, who like sports and hate sports etc, etc.

If you know about the hobby and the game theres not really any ammount of coaxing you can do to someone to make them see different. Playing with a bunch of toy soldier you have to paint yourself and memorise rules for just isn't for everyone.

IDK if you could get him to play DoW-DoWII for pc or space marine for Xbox360/PS3 then that might soften the blow to the 40k universe and as its through the meduim of gaming he might find that he quite likes it, and then slowly but surely transfer the Tv/Pc screen to minis. I did this with my flatmate who now plays 40k Space pups, so I can steal his leftover bits for my IW army's bases and some nice conversion ideas that are spinning around my head.

Hopes this helps

SoI

"They are not Space Banana's they're Imperial fists!" yelled Honsou as he lanced the 'Nilla marine captain in the face with his powersword.

ya its pretty much a culture shock if you dont know what to get into.

the only way i would say has a better shot is if your brother & friends have games at home - its seen more often & normal. might peak an interest.

some love it, other don't. I have long gave up on trying to "convert" people becuase of this (that and untill about 2 years ago i was a LOTR player only)
I'm opne of those people who is alos on xbox and though i don't play online much (only Left 4 Dead 2 really) i do play and i oftne play it more than i game/paint combined. However it is my hobby and about my only one (trying to fund 2 or more hobbys with GW prices is impossible)

Have the kid play Dawn of War 1 and 2 on the PC. Converted a buddy of mine to plaing the game real quick.

People who generally play video games 24/7 cant really accept that a game played in real life with something you can touch would be fun or anything... So they come in... Are bored... And they wont even try to think of it as fun, and maybe thats why they never learn of this awesomness known as miniature war games...

I agree with most of the above. Some love it and some don't.

At the end of the day, if the kid wasn't to play Xbox and Wow, then let him.
