You heard it from the great hero Marneus Calgar himself. Bikes are not lame.

Guys, this is Warhammer 40k. We're talking about the game where radioactive space priests fight robot skeletons, killer fungus, hippie space elves and doomsday cultists with swords. In the future.

I'm pretty sure that bike-riding warriors are a mere scribble on the laundry-list of lameness we've got here.

And what shoulder, & what art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp, Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears, And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

this is entirely true.

There is no such thing as fiction. Given that the multiple-universe quantum theory is correct then all events that happen in ´´fiction´´ actually happen in some other universe.

I have a SM bike army and it is really a case of yes and no as to whether they are lame, but mostly no. SM Bike armies have a hideous low model count and are essentially tactical marines on bikes. They generally can't contest objectives above the first floor, one will usally die when you HAVE to go through terrain and command squads are far too expensive for anything less than 2000 points.

All this being said you get relentless, twin linked bolters, 12" move, turbo boost, +1 T and the option of fast moving melta.

Most pure SM bike armies are poor but can be balanced out by making them hybrid e.g. include a vindicator to deal with the problem of hordes.

The standard models aren't that great but they are really easy to convert.

Overall I can't say they are lame, but as Katie said the quickly become lame when you use the wrong tactics i.e. assaulting.

Tactica: Space Marine Bike Armies
SCRATCH BUILT TAU MANTA (WIP)
Adeptus Mechanicus Army (WIP)
I have a rendezvous with Death, At some disputed barricade...

I use Swiftclaws in nearly all my games and they often do pretty well. This is sometimes purely through the ignorance of my opponents who think Bikes are lame and subsequently underestimate them.

I think Bikes of all races certainly have their merits, they just need to be used right, like any unit really.

Bikes can be effective, for example, I had wazdakka gutsmek manage to blow up a baal predator turn 1 right after its scout move, before it could lay flamey waste to every ork I had.

I don't personally use "bikers" from the entry in my codex, but I use nob bikers, warboss bikers, and wazdakka, power klaws that can move 12 and assault six can 100% of the time handle drop pods, and light to medium armor, and once you tie someone up with another unit, charging 4 or 5 nob bikers into the combat (without fear of them dying for the first turn) can lay a LOT of hell on whatever your fighting.

Although, sometimes they back fire pretty bad...and die before they do anything, but even then they were a distraction lol

Also...motorcycles are cool.

I'm all for playing this game, but you don't have to be a dick about it.

For a pure fluff point of view Ithink bikes are awsome. It is is in MHO each army's advancement (or step back) in recon/screening/and rapid insertion on their respected armys. Just as the Bell H-1 was for the US Army in the Vietnam conflict. A fast moving force that can find the enemy, screen the primary force or launch a lightningn strike to disrupt troop movement. So from fluff and a "tactical" sence I think they are awsome.

From a gaming point of view, no squad is lame unless you use them in that manor.

I think Ork bikes are the best, but CSM have pretty epic rides as well. CSM are more likely to be in an army too, since we have only one other realistic Fast Attack (Raptors). Orks get Deffkoptaz, Buggies, Wartraks and all that glory as well.
