Default Changing Space Marine Chapter

Arghhh.... decisions

Well I popped into GW store on Saturday to get some more bikes so I grabbed 3 bikes and a landpseeder for £49.

The helpfull guy in the shop said hang on grab a ravenwing boxed set, it's only £1 more and you get 3 extra bikes. He checked they can be made as "normal" i.e. not ravenwing specific and I went off a happy bunny.

However now I'm thinking actually I quite like the look of the ravenwing. (and Dark angels in general)

So the decision is stick with Ultramarines? or change to Dark Angels? Or maybe another chapter?

I got a few pieces painted as Ultramarines.
Sicarius (Almost finished now)
1 Tac Squad
Ven Dread
5 scouts + Telion

But I have a plan, a friends boy is playing Ultramarines (another reason to change so we dont both have the same chapter) and hell swap me the painted scouts and Tac squad for unpainted ones so I only loose a ven dread and characters and Im happy to replace them.

So any thoughts?

I used to be indecisiove now I'm not so sure

Wow, just wow. A GW employee actually pointed you toward a product which would get you more value for your cash! The Inquisition will hunt him down if they hear of this!

As to your dilemma, I'd say paint your models however you want, but I'd advise staying with the vanilla codex rather than using the DA one.

Don't lose your characters just because of a paint job! They cost enough as it is. Either paint on top of your old job, or if you're concerned that will ruin the model due to too much paint, strip them. Check out the tutorials board here for some advice for stripping models.

The DA codex is not as competitive but way more fun. You gotta respect a guy with an all black biker army

It's an older codex, and suffers from a number of issues. I'd say just use the regular SM 'dex to represent a biker force.

lol, i cant decide what chapter im going to do so im going to paint them yellow and blue trim with no insignia untill i decide. When i do it will be custom. That way im just going to play as any chapter i feel like playing that week.

So you could keep your models blue, but there is no reason they have to be ultramarines

Yeah but I'm not overly fussed on the blue to be honest.
Heh could just do a squad or 2 of each chapter I like the look of although that would probalby look a bit wrong on the table though.
But it would save me having to decide

Space sharks but yeh as for the codex, stick to vanilla, they an do a ravenwing army way better than the ravenwing. As for your characters, theres nothing that some paint stripper a few files and some greenstuff cant sort out. Also sticking to the standard codex gives you access to some blinding special characters, which would enable you to make some very interesting lists.

Good luck with what ever you go for

I believe the rules allow for Special Characters to be allied to your force. So you could have a differnt color army but the boys in blue special characters.

Me I went Salamander. Basically vanilla codex with a color view point on life.. oh and there blacks. Does that mean they shoot bolterse sideways? hmmm
