When I started this hobby I knew it would turn into an obsestion. do what i do give in and get the new shiny thing. But on the note of stopping you the necrons will be re-released in about a year so I would wait for then

I dont really Understand, why would you want to stop yourself?...

Na, i know exactly what you mean man. I currently have 3 WHFB armies, 2 LOTR armies and 8 40k armies, and pretty much the only ones i ever use are two of my 40k ones...

I think it comes down to just whether or not you can afford it really, if you have the money available, and arent putting yourself out by doing it, then theres no real reason not to.
The happiness and warmth given by 'completing' any new army always offsets any downsides (like never actually using them..)

xD

Only the Fearful fear Fear.

Wait, what?

You might see it as a bad thing to drop 200-300$ on a new army, but what else would you spend the money on that would bring as much "reward"? Beer? Women? A shiny new scabbard for your gladius?

After painting the necrons up you can sit back and enjoy the view, whereas alot of the other things we waste cash on leave us with no tangible reminders at all, and possibly only fleeting memories...

Horus....

I started playing in 87/88 I still have trader marines on plastic sprues waiting to be made.... let alone painted. I gave up for over 12 years mind you.... However this is what makes me stop... and I do have the $$$ now.

Set a target and do it. Don't stop till you have the project well underway. I am doing an entire footslogger army of guard at the moment doing Tallarn, Praetorian and some extra figures from the dark days.... I set myself the goal of I am not starting to buy for my next project until its finished once and for all.

You know you have a serious problem when you get cranky as your army is not painted and they change editions of the game... thats what I found out the hard way.

I do plan projects... I am planning an Empire army at the moment for fantasy... but I will not even touch it... till my guard are done and painted and at 2k points of painted to tabletop quality.

Thats the only way I know to control myself.

See every time I see some new shiney thing in WD, or look on FW and see an awesome model that would be an ideal centerpiece for this army I could buy and suchlike, I say to myself
"Neil, you have shitloads of 40k orks, chaos marines and fantasy empire models that you haven't painted, and some aren't even out of the box yet and DRIVING INSURANCE IS EXPENSIVE!!!!"

Does the job.

if it makes you happy i say buy them, build them, paint them and play with them.
Plus the world economy is buggered at the moment so you would be doing your bit to help.

Helping the economy...

What I do, is lift another Codex. When I want to build 5 or 6 armies at the same time, it pretty much stops me buying any...

Other than that I usually try to think how often am I going to use the army once I get it built? If I can't see myself playing the army on a regular bases then that usually stops me from getting it. Of course I usually go buy a bunch of stuff for my armies that I do use on a regular bases " I know I need an entire ork army but dressed in all white armor." This is how I end up with 4 ork armies and the beginnings of two daemon armies.

Good luck with your problem but I really don't think there is cure for our addiction.
